  • Description

Hei! My name is Arya and I am a former a school teacher specialized on clinical psychology and arts. I have spent years shaping up a racing team, and now it feels like the right time for it.
My apartment is up at the dog kennel and my alaskan huskies live straight out of the window, if not inside. '
Thats how I like it :) I have 21 dogs in training and then my oldies. We are about to get new puppies, and we would like you to play an important role in their growth.

At the moment, I have stopped teaching and accepted the challenges of being a guide in the arctic, sharing experiences with my furry friends. I have had polar dogs since I was a teenager, but I dit not start doing it professionally until a few years ago. Right now, me and the doggies are waiting for this world situation to become stabilized. Due to the global uncertanty caused by Covid19 situation developes, me and the dogs might be doing tours or not this winter. At the moment, we work for the most successful lodge in the area and so we hope that everything gets back to normal soon, so we can continue doing huskytours with them.

What to expect from me as a person?
One of the first things that comes to my mind, is DRAMA FREE. I have a positive approach towards every situation and I believe that good communication is the key. You live and you learn. To admit mistakes is a very fullfilling experience and I feel confident with that. What are we if not humans after all? I am in love with Mother Earth and also to learn about old native cultures, who are still more rooted than the new societies.I am in love with life, and I believe in people and the chance to UNLEARN. Regarding people, I love meeting new people, but also feel really comfortable by being alone. I love meditating and I use a bit of my time everyday to it.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am really interested to bring workawayers in order to exchange something constructive from each other.
I am highly interested in cultural exchange. I do not want you to sign up to get free food and acommodation ;) or to be here until you get a job opportunity in Norway, but to be part of the project.

I am the kind of person you can count on, a person of my word. I will always be honest about our abilities or limitations :) That is one of the reasons I love polar dogs, they are straight forward. You know what to expect from them. I am not here to sell myself, but to help, to be flexible and to get things done.

I am a solving problem oriented person, who always try to improve skills and try new ones. I feel comfortable doing lots of different things. From the most spiritual deep conversations, to handy jobs... I am not afraid to get my hands dirty or use strenght. It also feels right to be part of handy projects and how to use different tools. We can maybe teach each other?

Please feel comfortable to ask or share your thoughts.
I can't wait to see you soon!

Long commitment IS our priority. This is a voluntary position and we would like to always have 2 people, so the new person can start learning, while the experienced one stills here. This workaway experience is not about helping us building, or small projects, is a long term commitment to experience how is life above the arctic circle in a sled dog kennel created from scratch with all the ups and downs that life brings you 😊

    Person 1: October to January.
    Person 2: November to March.
Person 3: January to until the end of the season which means until we have the summer break.
Person 4 or couple: From May until August. Basically summer break.
Since we do not live in an ideal world, I will do the Maths myself, and that's why we only accept applications who can stay MINIMUM 3 MONTHS. I know I repeat myself, but this workaway is about mushing. Standing behind a sled without knowledge is not mushing.

Our kennel is not located in a remote place in the forest, but about 14km from town. Sometimes, getting there is not an easy task since we are either working or training. Which means that you need to be in peace with yourself, and to be ready to spend time learning about sled dogs.
If you have confidence, have initiative and self-motivation, want to be one step ahead, and are physically fit (it will make it easier, if so), you will be ready to handle this so “eager to go” beautiful criatures.
You might love dogs, but that’s not enough. First things first. YOU NEED TO GET TO KNOW EACH INDIVIDUAL on every possible aspect that is going to affect their performance… and then… you need to be aware of what the dogs need. This is not, feed, water, clean poo, repeat. I need you to be interested about how a husky kennel is managed, so you can understand our daily life. To enjoy daily husky talks about many different topics regarding huskies and sleddogs. At some point, you will know our dogs just by their sound or their gait if you are genuinely interested.

Do you imagine yourself standing on a sled, doing 80km, 4 times a week, in temperatures between -10C to -30C? If so, if you have enough resilience to stand behind those beautiful butts and connect your thoughts with their gait?
We can help you to learn how to be a guide and to handle sled dogs since that's a really appreciated ability if you want to create a network to stay up here in the North. We do the job ourselves and this is OUR PRIVATE HUSKIES. THE HUSKYTOURS DO NOT HAPPEN HERE.
Snow shovelig also happens everyday, so be ready to share my less favorite task of the winter with us.

During the summer, we go on hikes, we let the dogs run loose and we do some easy mantainment tasks.
We have a restitution break between May and end of July. If temperatures are around 10C, we train our dogs with ATV or kart.
If you are in the dogyard, you have to be present, you have to be one of the pack. You will not give up when challenges happen. You cannot understimate dogs, they know their place, and they know yours.
To be interested in our kennel culture and be part of it, to be good at identifying qualities on the dogs and take advantage of it. To give trust and get trust.
I also expect you to keep the space clean and tidy and respect the way we all do things. Hygiene is basic to avoid sickness both in dogs and humans.

    What else ...

Our kennel is not located in a remote place in the forest, but about 14km from town. Sometimes, getting there is not an easy task since we are either working or training. The landscape here is endless, everyday you can discover a new trail.
We have hiking routes from our backyard, fishing/ice fishing, we even have a little hill which we reach by snowscooter and ride our snowboards downhill, we can bring you to meet reindeer, sami people (not everything as soon as possible or whenever you want, but when we have the chance).
