    Description

We are an easygoing Kiwi/Swedish couple with four lovely children, two boys aged 15 and 13 and two younger girls aged 8 and 6. We have a lifestyle property in Bombay about 45 minutes from downtown Auckland (by car). Dad works in Auckland City so it's easy to get rides into the city for a day out. Mum works locally with wellness (Yoga classes and Swedish massage) and does work as a support person for a young lady with a disability. We also have a 3 year old playful and happy Golden retriever, a kitten, chickens, goats and two cows.
We always need lots of help outside on the property and in the garden. When you stay with us you are also naturally involved with anything that needs an extra hand in the house and the right person will also have the kids asking you to play :)

Volunteer work in our family would include helping out with daily household tasks such as preparing meals/cooking, doing dishes after meals, tidying, cleaning, hanging up washing and assist in helping the children to do their tasks (getting ready for school etc.).

Besides the everyday tasks there will also be certain projects to work on in the garden or on the property. As we have a large property there is always something to do outside. Weeding, moving lawns, planting, digging, watering, using weed eater, spraying weeds etc. We are continually landscaping and planting/replanting trees and plants (especially during winter).

To mix in well with our family we think you are a single person or a couple who loves children and enjoys the outdoors. You need to be self motivated and outgoing. You get on with things and get them done! You understand that staying in a family isn't something you do just to get free accommodation and meals. You are interested in doing Workaway because you love to help out and you believe you have some great values to offer. You are also really keen to take an active part in our family life and not just "do the work".

We will all enjoy getting to know you and are happy to be able to give you a great experience of family life (yes - loud, wild and crazy at times but hopefully also fun and caring:) and give you a opportunity to develop and share some of your skills and hit us with your honest, respectful and fun personality. We also hope to offer you an experience that is different than just traveling the 'tourist route".

If this sounds like you and what you would like to do, please feel free to send us a message.

If you don't have a car we are happy to pick you up from the nearest train or bus station. You can go by train to Pukekohe or Papakura from Britomart in Auckland. Or there is a bus stop close by where most bus companies stop (companies like Intercity, Naked bus etc). If you come by plane we can usually pick you up from the airport or there are shuttles that would take you into Auckland for a bus or train from there.

On your days off we are happy to drop you off to the train or bus or in the week you can usually go in to Auckland with Richard. There is lots of nice parks and beaches to explore in Auckland, museums, an art gallery, cafe's shops and the normal city buzz. You can also take a ferry out to one of the islands in the harbour or stay a night on Waiheke Island.

In the region south of Auckland there is also bushwalks, mountain bike tracks a botanical garden and lots more to explore.

Just let us know if there is anything in particular you are interested in and we can try to help you out.
