Description
The island of Ventotene is a small, but important island, located between Ponza and Capri, it is a protected marine area, and a nature reserve.
Me, Daniela, my partner Carlo and our 4 cats have been living here for years. We find ourselves in a terraced land, Mediterranean landscape with a sea view, some small fruit trees and eight olive trees. We try to take care of this paradise, following the permaculture method, or in other words respecting the course of nature. It’s a semi-wild space, sensitive and delicate, to live here it calls for attention and cure. In time we have recuperated old rural caves, creating three separated living areas and a common open space, immersed in green.
Thanks to our friend artist, Scalia, we have jokingly called our place Comune Mezzo Gaudio, the opening to the People with a capital P.
The Comune is a place that is open to all, it doesn’t matter if we already know each other, what matters is the desire to create harmony with the sharing and respect of each others space and time. Good food, wine and music often bring us together with our island friends in a joyful atmosphere. For example, this evening, while I am writing this profile, our friends are here making pizza.
We like to play clarinet and saxophone, but we also have an acoustic guitar, djembe, and various percussion instruments, with which we bring life to non-professional jam sessions.
Depending on the season, the chores to do during the stay vary quite a lot. Chop wood, gardening, clearing the paths of overgrown plants, helping with every day tasks. If you find yourself here for the beautiful season (fro april to september), you could experience the emotions of taking a dive into the crystalline waters of the Ventotene coves, from the deck of our small but heroic boat Alga.

The island is just 2km so is easy to reach anyplace by walking but if you are tired maybe you can find someone that pick up you. You absolutely have to enjoy the see, playing sports like swimming, diving, snorkelling , sailing, kayak and sup. Visit the archeological areas, or discovery the Bourbon’s penitentiary which stands on nearby island of Santo Stefano.
