He was an incredible volunteer. His last-minute arrival was invaluable in getting the house ready for visitors and volunteers. He was clean, hardworking, and had excellent baking skills. Thank you so much for your participation with us; we hope to see you again.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Looking for creative minds ...)

Staying with Samo and Florrie was a true pleasure. For two plus weeks, I got to experience relaxed farm life in charming Tlayacapan. I was very lucky to have arrived during Carnaval to see that the village/town itself is a hidden gem with its own distinct character. Getting to/from CDMX and nearby towns is very easy with all kinds of buses and … read more mini buses.

The work was primarily focused on taking care of the hundreds of chicks that were being raised on the farm, which is the main activity right now. At least two daily shifts to ensure they have enough food and water and that they are in good health otherwise. Other work included all kinds of cleaning and maintenance tasks around the farm and rental house. The schedule and work flow differently from day to day and Samo and Florrie are very flexible and laid back, which makes the overall ambiance very welcoming and it's something I truly appreciate.

Only shortly prior to my arrival, the rental house (aka main house) had been turned into the new volunteer space. It's spacious, private, and has a great kitchen which we made great use of. Every now and then, the house is rented out to guests, in which case volunteers would move up to one of the other rooms next to the hosts. The space there is also very nice and inviting.

Each of the six dogs and two cats has a personality of its own and they all certainly shape a big part of the experience, e.g. opening and closing the main gate is always a thrill to everyone :)

What I will miss the most is the great conversations and meals we shared. Volunteers provide for their own food, and I and the other volunteer at the time prepared elaborate dinners almost EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. We shared several of those meals with Samo and Florrie and Sasha (long-term resident) who also shared several of their meals with us. We had tacos, huauzontle, pizza, focaccia, and LOTS of sour dough bread. The kombucha project was on hold for a while, but by the time you arrive, it will likely have returned to being a regular beverage on the dinner table. Enjoy a glass on my behalf!

P.S. If you're at this place and Sasha is around, make sure to kindly ask her to give you an intro to Tai Chi. It's a subject she clearly cares about, knows about, and is good at teaching. If only I'd arranged for my session with her earlier than my very last morning. But I'm grateful for it all the same.

Taz has been very reliable and warm. He is very knowledgeable and a perfect fit as a teacher. He already has many teaching experiences.
