Beschreibung

Hi! My name is Signe, and I love exploring the world. I’m an adventurous, hardworking, and creative person who enjoys learning about different cultures and connecting with people. To me, traveling isn’t just about seeing new places, it’s about understanding what it means to be a part of the world we all share :)

I’m from Seattle, WA, USA, and while I don’t have everything about my future mapped out, I’m choosing to enjoy the journey, stay curious, and learn through as many real life experiences as possible. Traveling and volunteering are huge privileges that give me the opportunity to step outside of a Western centered worldview, challenge my perspectives, and clean from the people and communities I meet along the way.

I grew up attending a Montessori school, which helped shape me into a hands-on learner, adventure seeker and adaptable person. I’ve also been figure skating for 15 years. Although I am retired from competing in synchronized figure skating, I love coaching and working with children. Teaching has taught me patience, leadership, commutation, and how to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds.

I’ve completed Workaways in Chile, Portugal, Malaysia, Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, doing everything from hostel work and restaurant service to farm work, gardening, house repairs, and general domestic tasks. These experiences have made me more adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable stepping into unfamiliar environments. My past hosts have described me as reliable, proactive, and adaptable.

I’m especially interested in language exchange and improving my conversational Spanish. I’ve had the opportunity to work and volunteer in Spanish-speaking environments, including hostel work and restaurant service, and I love how much more connected language can make you feel to a place and its people. I’m always happy to practice, make mistakes, and keep learning!

I’m a very detail oriented, organized, and creative person who is willing to take initiative. Some of my skills and experience include:

• Figure skating coach for beginners of all ages, from 3 years old to adults for over four years
• Workaway experience in hostels/ hotels, farms, and homes in English and Spanish speaking environments
• Reception, restaurant server, cleaning, and guest interaction
• Gardening, livestock/animal care, cooking, cleaning, and general domestic work
• Hands-on house repair including plastering and sanding
• Childcare, working with children, lesson planning
• Mural painting, drawing, and other creative projects
• Social media, photography, graphic design, video editing, and content creation
• Retail, inventory management, cashier and consignment curator at the UBC thrift store
• Restaurant server for elderly residents at a retirement home for three years
• Nonprofit internships with Save the Children - Fiji, Amara Foster Care Center - Seattle, and the National Park Service
• PADI open water certified

During COVID, I also ran a small online clothing store through Depop, which grew to over 250 sales. I sourced, styled, photographed, advertised, packaged, and shipped clothing while communicating with customers and managing the day-to-day operations of the shop.

I’m a very thrifty and resourceful person and enjoy learning new skills. I believe in lending a hand even when I haven’t been directly asked. My upbringing at a Montessori school and my years of synchronized figure skating taught me the value of independence, teamwork, self-discipline, and being accountable to the people around me.

I’m always excited to learn something new, contribute where I’m needed, and experience everyday life somewhere different.

I love animals and a huge part of what I enjoy about traveling is being around other forms of life that are not only human. While cats have a special place in my heart, I enjoy all life!
