Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help me with my hazelnut farm ...)

I came to Nuri Bey’s home as a Workaway volunteer, but I left feeling that I had found a new family in Trabzon.
I stayed here for about one and a half months, and it became one of the warmest and most memorable experiences of my travels.

From the beginning, he made me feel comfortable and welcome. … read more The daily tasks are varied and can change depending on the season, the weather and what needs to be done, which makes the experience feel natural and connected to real village life.
But what made this experience truly special for me was not the Workaway itself. It was the people.

Nuri Bey’s sister, Nurhayat, became like a mother to me. I honestly cannot describe how much kindness, care and love she gave me. I felt completely comfortable with her, almost as if I were sitting at my own mother’s table. We drank endless cups of tea and coffee, meals, went to the city together, visited friends and family, laughed a lot, talked about life, and shared so many ordinary little moments that became very special to me.
Her daughters also became part of my life here. They welcomed me with so much warmth and friendship. I spent beautiful evenings with them, met their friends, joined family gatherings, weddings and a kına night, and slowly stopped feeling like a visitor. I felt included in their real life, not treated like a tourist or simply a volunteer.
One of the things I loved most about this experience was having the chance to see Turkish family and village life from the inside. I met neighbours, relatives and friends, tasted many homemade Turkish dishes, learned new Turkish words every day, listened to family stories and joined local traditions and celebrations.

There were always people coming and going, tea being made, food being shared and someone saying, “Come, sit with us.” That feeling of warmth and belonging is something I will always remember.

The village is surrounded by beautiful green nature, and Trabzon is a wonderful place if you enjoy mountains, local culture, village life and the Black Sea. This is not the kind of Workaway where you only stay in a house and remain separate from the host. If you are open to people and local life, you can really become part of the family.

I have travelled and stayed with different hosts in different countries, but it is very rare to find people with whom you feel this comfortable and accepted. Leaving this place was genuinely difficult for me. I know I will miss the breakfasts, tea times, the dogs, the garden, the family gatherings and, most of all, the people.

Nuri Bey, thank you for opening your home to me and making me feel so welcome.

I arrived here as a volunteer, but I am leaving with a family that I know I will never forget.

I truly hope this is not goodbye. I hope one day I can welcome you in Iran, especially in Kish, and return even a small part of the kindness and hospitality you gave me.
