Hello! I’m Rayhan, originally from the United Kingdom, and currently based in Galicia, Spain, where I’m working as an English Language Assistant within public schools.

Previously, I worked as an Economist in the UK Civil Service, where I conducted economic analysis to support the delivery of key government policies. It was an interesting career, where I gained valuable skills and insights, however I was keen to experience life from a different perspective, so I decided to make the leap into teaching and travel.

My contract is due to end at May, after of which, I'm keen to gain additional hands-on experience through Workaway, immersing myself further into new cultures, meeting interesting people, and contributing to projects that make a positive impact!

I have an intermediate level of Spanish (I assume around B1), but keen to improve! I'm also keen to learn more languages, Arabic and French are on my list! My family is from Gujarat in India, so I can communicate fluently in Gujarat. However, I was born and raised in the UK so English is the language I'm most comfortable in. More than happy to teach English and some basic Gujarati to anyone interested!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

As a current English teacher in Spain, I have experience in teaching students to help improve their ability to read, write and communicate better in English. I currently work in public schools with students aged 4-12, so I'm experienced with managing and caring younger children.

My background as a Government Economist in the UK built my ability in Excel spreadsheets, coding, and a strong capability to handle numbers. Happy to help if you need any assistance with numbers or finances!

I’ve volunteered with Samaritans, a suicide telephone helpline in the UK , providing a listening ear and support for people in emotional distress. This experience taught me the power of empathy, patience and listening!

Additional practical skills I have: cooking (I can cook a pretty good curry!), sewing, household maintenance and cleaning. I also have some hospitality experience as a waiter!

I'm not as experienced or skilled in manual labour, as much I wish, but very keen to learn and improve! Especially with my professional background as an Economist, I'm keen to learn some alternative skills in areas such as gardening, carpentry, construction etc - one of the main reasons why I'm using Workaway!

I have a variety of hobbies that keep me engaged and curious. I love reading - I'm currently focusing on Spanish literature (any recommendations are welcome!). Hiking and climbing are my favourite ways to stay active whilst savouring nature. I enjoy listening to music - currently I'm listening to a mix of jazz and electronic music. I also enjoy socializing, meeting new people, and sharing experiences.

Above all, I’m eager to try new things and embrace fresh experiences!
