Currently in Japan; very interested in trying new things and having diverse cultural experiences, so I am open to a wide range of opportunities in East Asia, where I plan to be until September 2026!

Beschreibung

As a former strict introvert who grew up to learn he was driven by a need to connect with others, I discovered in 2021 that travelling was the greatest way for me to chase such connections while exploring the history and cultures of a world that has always fascinated me. I am now starting my dream digital nomad life and I know from past Workaway experience that that seeking out further diverse volunteering opportunities will be the perfect way to ensure this phase of my life is as memorable as possible!

For most of my life I worked customer service or retail type jobs, however after getting my Political Science degree from the University of Regina in 2023 I started working for the government of my province in Canada within the Ministry of Justice, first as an Administrative Assistant and then as a Learning & Development Coordinator before pivoting to the private sector to start casual remote work as a SharePoint and M365 developer which I am now currently doing as I travel.

My past workaway experience is a mixture of hostels and English tutoring, so I am now looking for either similar or new experiences and am generally open to any opportunity that can offer a unique way to connect with others and/or to experience an unfamiliar culture while making new friends.

I spent the majority of my life shunning the learning of language, despite the fact that my dad is a fluent-speaking French teacher (who never taught me, unfortunately). By now however I have discovered that making an effort to learn a language is one of the best ways to connect with people and show them you care, so I try to put in as much effort as I can when I travel to new places. So far, languages I have tried to learn in the past 5 years are Romanian, Turkish, Spanish, and Japanese, however lack of prolonged exposure to any of these has made it so that I only really know bits and pieces of each. I also have prior teaching experience in Türkiye through workaway during the year 2022 and found it was perhaps the most rewarding experience I got to have through this site, so I am definitely eager to try this again in other countries and expand my teaching ability. I think I have only gotten more social since then so I am hoping it should come a lot more naturally the second time!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am a University student studying political science and history in Canada with eventual plans to go to law school; as such, a lot of my 'skills' would be intellectual, in that I'm very good at critical thinking, superb at reading/writing in English, and any kind of research. I have also grown a recent interest in learning new languages (after failing to learn for most of my life) because of the great experiences I had last year while backpacking after I made an effort.

Professionally, I have mainly worked in customer service or retail type jobs, so I am very good at speaking/communicating with all kinds of people. With that said, I am also very physically fit, and am interested in learning new physical skills that could help me in life. I have a very active and creative mind, so whatever job I decide to dedicate myself to I put in my complete focus, especially if it is in something relevant to my interests or if it involves being in good company.

In terms of skills I would label more as 'hobbies' than anything, I am very good at cooking and/or baking things I've never made, I enjoy playing/listening to music, graphic design, and running/working out (usually with my dog, Pablo).

Above all however, I am passionate about travelling to unfamiliar places and meeting new people (and animals!) along the way, as so far nothing in life has brought me greater happiness overall.
