Hi, I'm Myriam. 36, originally from Switzerland, but I've spent the last 13 years living all over the world: a stretch in Italy, 6 years in New Zealand, 4 years in Barcelona, some time in Mexico, and a few other stops in between.
Work exchange has always been one of my favorite ways to travel. I've done it on other platforms over the years, which is why my Workaway reviews are empty for now. The spirit's the same though. Meeting people I'd never otherwise meet, getting hands on with things I'd never otherwise try.
A bit of context on where I am right now. For the past 6 years I've worked as a digital and tech consultant, fully remote. The freedom has been a gift, but I've come to realize I'm not built for an online-only life. So I'm in a transition phase. I've cut my work down to a few hours a day to keep myself afloat, and I'm using this period to rethink what I want to be doing with my work and my life.
That's a big part of why I'm here.
What I'm hungry for right now is hands-on, manual work. Spending more time using my body, working with materials I can actually touch. I just finished a 3-month woodworking course at my local makerspace to get familiar with the tools. Still a beginner, but I'm genuinely into it. Same with gardening, which I always come back to, and building things in general. If your project involves any of that, I'd love to learn from you.
## What I can offer
On sheep and beef farms in New Zealand I've done a fair bit of physical labor: mustering, chopping wood, hauling timber, helping with fencing. I've also gone for build week at Burning Man-style events, helping out wherever an extra pair of hands was needed (shade structures, hauling, that kind of thing). I'm physically fit (strength training, a lot of hiking), so heavy work and long days aren't a problem.
In retreat centers I've helped with gardening, kitchen work (chopping, prep, supporting the lead cook), guest support, and some facilitation. I speak Spanish, so I've also done quite a bit of Spanish-to-English translation for guests.
I'd say I'm pretty adaptable, and I pick things up fast.
Languages: French (native), English (fluent), advanced Spanish from 4 years in Barcelona, and intermediate Italian.
I also have tech skills (6 years as a digital consultant), so if your wifi's playing up or you need help with a website, I can probably figure it out. Part of why I'm here is to spend less time on screens though, so I'd rather the main work be hands-on.
## A bit more about me
I'm drawn to community living and being closer to nature. The rhythm-of-nature thing has been hard to hold onto with a mostly digital life, and getting back to it is one of the reasons I'm doing this. I've lived in a few different co-living setups over the years. From the Burning Man side I picked up self-reliance, what they call radical inclusion, and the habit of actually showing up and participating. Those values stuck with me well beyond the events themselves, and I try to carry them into whatever I'm part of.
The social side of a host project doesn't scare me. I do well in groups when there's also room to be on my own.
I read and listen to a lot on where the world is headed right now, especially around AI and the meaning crisis. I did a Master's in Psychology that I never used professionally, but the human mind still fascinates me, so good conversations are something I value.
Looking forward to seeing what's out there. -

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Tech and Digital Product Development:
While my primary reason for joining Workaway is to immerse myself in non-tech experiences, I come with a strong background in tech. I'm proficient in developing digital products, especially when it comes to backend workflows and integrating various systems. If a host has tech-related needs or challenges, I'd be more than willing to lend a hand occasionally.
Gardening and Permaculture:
I wouldn't call myself an expert in gardening or permaculture, but I have a genuine interest for both. I've dabbled in these areas and am always eager to expand my knowledge and skills. If you're looking for someone enthusiastic and willing to learn, I'm your person!
Animal Care:
My experiences with animals, though not extensive, have always been rewarding. I adapt quickly and am keen to learn more about animal care, whether it's tending to farm animals or household pets.
Event Organization:
One of my strengths lies in organizing events. Over the years, I've orchestrated various gatherings, from small intimate events to week-long retreats. If there's a community event, workshop, or any gathering on the horizon, I can certainly pitch in with planning and execution.
Adaptability and Eagerness to Learn:
Above all, my most significant asset is my adaptability. I thrive in new environments and am always eager to acquire new skills. Whether it's a task I've done before or something entirely new, I approach it with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. -
