Marie and I are passionate about travel and adventure. After visiting and living in Canada, we want to discover South America, starting with Colombia and Ecuador. Open-minded and nature lovers !

Beschreibung

Hello, my name is Mathias, I am a 30-year-old Belgian. I began my journey in April 2023 in Canada, where I had the opportunity to travel from East to West with a group of travelers. It was while discovering Canada that I had the chance to do various volunteer work in hostels, outdoor centers (dog sledding), and the canine sector. After this trip, I decided to extend my stay in Canada by settling down with Marie (a lovely 30-year-old French woman) in Montreal, whom I met during my trip.

Today, we are determined to discover South America, starting with Colombia, Ecuador and Perou if we have the time. Our idea is to take our time to discover and learn about the culture and the country.

Until today I already done 4 helpX/Workaways :

Ecotopia - Aracataca, Magdalena, Colombie (April 2026)
- Renovation of an earthen wall (various types of layers)
- Milking goats (cheese making)
- Making a sign
- Building a shelter for the goats

Aventure 4 Saison - Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada (December 2023 to April 2024)
- Guide during dog sledding activities.
- Customer service (reception, reservation management, support, and safety briefing).
- Dog care (training, nutrition monitoring, and injury management) for 60 dogs.
- Management of the activity site.
- Transportation of customers between the ski resort and/or hotel to pick up customers and drive them back after the activity.

Alternative Hostel - Cleaning team - Montréal, Québec, Canada (June 2023)
- Maintenance of common areas and preparation of dormitories.

Happy Tails Pet Resort - Worker - Huntsville, Ontario, Canada (April 2023 to June 2023)
- Maintenance of buildings and grounds: gardening, cleaning, and repairs.
- Moving dogs (30) to different areas of the facility.
- Technical/computer support: installation of cameras, photo editing, and social media support.

On her side, Marie is new to volunteering platforms (HelpX, Workaway, WWOOF, etc.). However, she has spent a long time giving free French lessons for an association in Montreal. Always ready to help and very pedagogical, you will discover a warm and radiant person!

One of our goal is to improve our Spanish. I am still interested in improving my English as well, while Marie already speaks English and German very well. We both speak French, and Marie actually used to regularly volunteer as a French teacher in Montreal.

To tell you a bit more about us: we are a French-Belgian couple who met during our trip to Canada, and we decided to continue our adventure together. Marie works in the healthcare field, supporting research projects related to new health technologies. She loves outdoor activities such as trail running, swimming, and cycling. She is very sporty and truly enjoys every moment spent in nature. Yoga lover she is always ready to teach me new poses

As for me (Mathias), I am a geographer. I love maps and the technologies related to them, such as Strava, AllTrails, and Maps.me. I enjoy trying new things: fixing electronics, tinkering with a snowmobile (even if I don’t really know what I’m doing!), building yurts, and spending time outdoors. I also really enjoy doing small jobs and helping with anything that is needed.

Together, we discovered a real shared passion: snorkeling. Floating at the surface while exploring underwater life, watching fish and corals, each more beautiful than the last. The best of both worlds, combining the calm of the surface with the beauty beneath it.
