Beschreibung

I'm Mauro, a very fit 57 yr old. I was born and live in the south west of England. My dad is Italian and mum English, but Mama Mia, I don't speak Italian! I am learning a bit though, with Duolingo. I have many skills and can turn my hand to most things. I qualified as a landscape gardener in the 90s and spent ten years living and working in London. I have a reasonable knowledge of soft landscaping, but have also gained skills working in property maintenance - carpentry, plumbing, electrics etc. In 2019, I built an extension to my flat. I had help with the structural work, but did most of the second fix work myself. In my youth, I trained as a vehicle mechanic and still maintain all my own vehicles. I have much experience, particularly with French cars, having owned many of these vehicles.
I have a dry sense of humour, am curious about anything and everything and have many interests, including travel, writing, music, film. I am also an avid BBC World Service and 6Music listener. I enjoy anything mechanical, gardening, cooking, hiking, camping, getting out in nature and lots more! I eat everything and love to make good food. In the last decade or so, I've ridden a motorbike around Thailand and Vietnam, walked and cycled the Camino in Spain, spent three months exploring Japan, and summers travelling round Europe in my van. I work at the Olympics and was recently at the winter games in Milan. I love all animals, but have a real soft spot for cats, dogs, ducks and goats. A few years ago, I looked after a flock of sheep in Galicia.

I can turn my hand to most things - Qualified landscaper and gardener; general building skills - carpentry, plumbing, electrics; vehicle repair and maintenance; computer literate; cooking. I've pretty much fixed most things - If something doesn't work, I always take it apart to find out why!

I enjoy and respect the natural environment, and love animals. I would like to find a workaway that involves looking after animals, or helping animals in some way. You will make the most of my skills if you have technical and practical projects, as long as you have a good selection of working tools (many hosts don't!). If you need help with practical projects, I would prefer to stay with hosts who have common sense and who are also practical people, as this makes it easier to work alongside one another. I prefer a structured working day - knowing when to start and finish and what exactly you would like to be done and what you hope to achieve. I also prefer to start early, around 8-8.30am, so we can work before the heat of the day becomes too much. I would describe myself as an interesting introvert, who has had some wild times in the past! Now I prefer quieter households with fewer people. I have an eclectic taste in music and film. Although I don't play any instruments, music is my thing and I would love to share this with you. I am fully house trained, clean up after myself and have loads of common sense! Also interested in ecobuilds and ecoliving - would love to learn more about this.
