Hi! My name’s Maëlle, I'm a solo traveller looking to learn new skills, challenge myself, and meet new souls.

Originally from France, I spent the last 8 years abroad for studies and work. Currently in Sweden, I've decided to close this chapter of my life and move back to France. But before I step into the next one, I want to take a pause to expand my horizons and do what I love: volunteering, sharing, learning.

Past couple years have felt a bit like autoplay, and I've been slowly losing meaning. I'm hoping for genuine experiences where we can connect, share perspectives, and grow together. For me it's also about stepping outside my comfort zone to better understand what I can bring to the world.

I'm super curious about projects where I can use my hands, like animal care, farm life, gardening, permaculture, DIY/renovation, and self-suficiency. If I don't always have much experience, I for sure bring with me my positive energy and enthusiasm to learn! I'll be equally happy to help out around the house with daily tasks, cooking meals, baking goods, and being part of your family life.

A small list of activities/hobbies/skills I'd love to discover: doing music, playing the piano, sourdough, herbs, mushroom picking, wood work, goat milking, cross-country skiing... and so much more. If you're interested in some language exchange, I'll very happily speak French and English, and/or improve my Swedish! And, I'll always be up for deep conversations about anthropology, sustainability, psychology, people, spirituality, and whatever you're passionate about!

Among my interests, nature is where I reconnect, I love hiking and being out. Yoga is another big joy in my life, and I've been exploring spirituality and consciouness. When indoors, I love baking and cooking, and spend quiet time reading and writing. Lately I've started exploring knitting and crocheting, bread making, and dancing. I'm mindful about making more space for my creative side and self-expression, there's just so much life has to offer!

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Through seasonal jobs and voluntering projects, I've learned about waitressing, retail, customer service, and managing a hostel. What stands out for me is contact with people, how joyful I get when helping out and interacting.

I grew up surrounded by dogs and cats, and other small companions included guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters... I feel very connected to animals, and taking care of them feels like second nature. Doing that with Workaway would be a real joy, whether it's walking the dogs or helping run a farm.

I have a bit of babysitting experience and I love being around children. I'll happily participate in daily life with them, do creative activities, and perhaps some language exchange too. I speak French and English fluently, which would be great to do something with depending on what you want. While living in Sweden I've also been learning Swedish and would love to make it come to life with native speakers. As for my Spanish, it has become very rusty and I'll welcome the chance to practice it after all those years!

In general I'm a handy person and put 100% of my energy in what I do. I carry with me the value of work done well, and being a fast learner helps a lot, as I'll adapt quickly and get moving. If you have the time and patience to show me first, I’d love to do tasks that I'm not used to!

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help to bring my 300 year old ...)

If I had to describe my experience in one word, I'd say "grounding". There's the quiet, majestic mountains all around you; waking up every day to care for a whole bunch of living beings; getting your hands dirty (in every possible sense!); learning to move with the weather; working as a team... And then there are all the unpredictable things that… read more make farm life so beautiful, and suddenly dinner is pushed back because the ducks escaped or two newborn goats just arrived!

I went to this place heartbroken and depressed, with fairly low expectations but a good feeling. Safe to say it went miles beyond. I'll remember the wood and pine runs in the tractor with the wind in my air, the magical aurora dancing in the night sky, sunsets on the frozen lake by the mountain cabin, the tiny chirping sounds of newly hatched chicks in their uncubator, or training Erik and Danny to be circus goats.

It was my first time on a farm, and I found so much joy in that. Over time I became very comfortable with the animals and realised how capable I was. Before long I had grown super attached to all of them, and the barn tasks became my favourite part of the routine. I was also super lucky to be there during goat birthing season, and even had the chance to improvise as a midwife (midgoat?) for one of them. What a unique moment!!

Of course all these memories would not mean the same without the people I shared them with. I formed a great team with other volunteers from all over Europe, it was amazing to grow together and feel part of something bigger than yourself. There were the big projects, like building a larger coop for the piglets, fencing, and moving animals around; the group getaways, e.g. our sauna day in Namsos or cosy time at the mountain cabin; and the daily tasks, like cooking or washing the dishes together, which were just as important in building cohesion.

Kenneth puts a lot of intention into making the stay comfortable and balanced. He genuinely cares about everyone’s well-being, and about that of his animals, and he has so much to show and teach. I liked his way of teaching too: instead of explaining or giving instructions right away, he usually lets you guess, try things for yourself, maybe fail, and then do better next time. It can sometimes be frustrating, but ultimately it is so much more formative. Thank you, Kenneth, for being you, and for creating such a beautiful space. I’ll carry it with me.

All in all, this was a truly special experience that connected me to real things, to others, and to myself. My original plan was to stay for only 5 weeks due to health obligations, but I ended up going back for a second round because it just felt like this chapter wasn't over. I didn't regret it at all! I highly recommend staying long enough to really get a sense of the place: to build connection and trust with the animals, witness the passing of the seasons and the work that comes with them, and experience the changing dynamics of the volunteer group. If you have a communal mindset and are willing to grow and challenge yourself, then this is the place for you!
