Louis & Lex - We are an outdoorsy British couple aged 28 & 31 emigrating to Canada and taking a career break in between moving. We are looking for work on a Ranch or Farm, as we both grew up in the countryside and are keen to get knee deep in mud again.

Lex - is currently in South Africa doing two months working on a cattle farm, using workaway, and we are both looking for a similar adventure in Canada. Lex’s workaway has given her experience in cattle herding, counting, blocking, dipping and riding. Louis is physically very strong, fit and practical. Between us we should be very helpful additions to any ranch or farm.

Lex
My name is Lexine, I am a 28 year old female, living in London for the last five years, working in digital marketing. I grew up in the Shropshire countryside and have always loved everything relating to the outdoors, pets, hiking, sports growing up with pets such as pigs, chickens & a pony.

I am currently on a two month workaway in South Africa with my best friend working on a cattle farm and safari lodge, and loving every second. A big part of our role is working with the herdsman, rounding up 3 different herds of grass fed cattle in the African bush, counting them, watching out for illness and injecting them. We also run errands for the farm manager, participate in family life (helping with the kids busy schedule, driving them around), do stock checks and room checks in the lodge.
Another key part of our life on the farm is exercising the 13 polo ponies, going on out-rides with the children most evenings. Ashley, who we work for is a keen polo player, so we are also participating in this, practicing mid week and on weekends.

I would describe myself as tenacious, and will throw myself head first into any job with a smile on my face and am never afraid to get my hands dirty. An example of this would be me spending 6 weeks working in a factory unpaid in France with the sole aim to improve my French (I completed my undergraduate degree in French and have since spent 1.5 years living there).

Whilst my career since university has been in digital marketing (working first for a top UK insurance brand and then a tech start up) during my teen & university years I worked in hospitality in restaurants & pubs so I am very comfortable hosting if this is a requirement of the job.

Louis
I am a 31 year old male. I have been living in London for the last 8 years, working in sales for a Climate Tech company. I grew up in the Buckinghamshire countryside and love all sports, hockey, rugby, tennis, kitesurfing and anything outdoors.

I have always loved adventure, recents ones - Kayaking around Swedish islands with Lex last year, and trekking in Norway with friends the year before. I have also been an expedition leader for a local school’s Duke of Edinburgh award trips, leading groups of teenagers hiking through the Scottish Mountains for 5 day treks, so I am very happy orienteering.

My family has always had a big passion for the sea, with most of our holidays growing up being sailing trips. This encouraged me to pursue my sailing qualifications, and after university and then doing a stint working for a sailing company. This has given me experience dealing with clients, teaching people to sail yachts, and helping fixing engines in the workshop. This should give me some transferable skills for ranch work. My love for water also extended to kitesurfing, which has been a hobby of mine for the last 8 years, last year I spent two months pursuing this passion, kitesurfing all the way up up the northern coast of Brazil.

I have been to Canada once before with my family, and had an amazing time horseback riding at Sundance Guest Ranch in BC and would be really keen to get involved in the work that goes into making a ranch run.

Other info -
- We both have approved IEC working holiday Visas
- Both have full, clean driving licences (lexine has a full motorbike licence)
- Lexine is fluent in French (doing undergraduate degree in French and living & working there for 1 year & 6 months) & Louis speaks reasonable French, Spanish & portuguese
- We plan to travel around Canada from April to August, before settling near Vancouver in the quest for an outdoor lifestyle & new adventure.

Iona's skills
•Riding since I was 3 (hacking / hunting / local competitions / pony club / instructor course)
• House sitting small holding ( looking after 5 horses on my own) for weeks / pigs / chickens / dogs and cat
•Swaziland - worked on a game reserve carrying out general duties from office work to riding trails with guests. Safari maintenance team included fencing / feeding animals etc
•Work experience aged 17 - hunting yard. Day to day running of a busy hunt yard. Included excersising hunt horses / stable management and general well-being of horses
• Confident and competent around horses
• Most recent jobs have been working for Sotheby’s (organising events) and Hamptons (selling houses). Both public facing and high stakes requiring high level of flexibility and responsibility
•I love meeting new people and being outdoors.
•I’m very hands on and practical / active.
• Comfortable around majority of animals - milked cows in NZ and have done lambing seasons.
•Most recently I have been taking polo lessons

Lexine's skills
- Full car licence, full motorcycle licence and experience driving a van
- Adventure spirit, took a solo trip around the pyrenees by motorbike
- Proficient in DIY (recently handmade a wooden planter as a gift)
- Happy hacker but would like to improve riding
- Masters degree in Marketing & undergraduate degree in French with Business so happy to help out with any marketing needs (am currently a marketing manager in London)
- Great interpersonal skills built from younger years in hospitality but refined in the corporate world project managing, working in cross functional teams, presenting & more.
