Hi! My name's Henry, I'm an electrician and community builder from North Carolina. Over the past two years I've lived and worked in a small community of 15 people, building or remodeling 5 different tiny homes, gardening, taking care of kids, cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the land and animals. After dropping out of college I went to trade school and now have over 2500 hours of electrical experience, as well as a solid foundation in carpentry. I've built roofs and decks, framed houses, put up sheetrock, installed siding and solar panels, run new electrical services, dug foundations, and done plenty of painting, flooring, and trim. I can also drive stick, and am a proficient musician in the brass and percussion arena.

I'm passionate about sustainable living and finding ways to localize the things we need. I believe things are possible now with communities that have never been done before, and plan on exploring this field for the rest of my life. I currently live in a self-built, off-grid tiny home and will turn 23 in October.

I tend to side with Aphrodite's Child's take on The System.

My most notable skill is my 2000 hours of residential electrical work. I've completed significant wiring projects for almost every host I've stayed with so far, including rewiring a barn, hooking up a hot tub and several RV sites, installing new outlets, lights, fans, etc., and running new trenched line. My family has grown a garden and raised chickens and rabbits for the last seven years, and so far I've done a few farmsits taking care of all sorts of animals. I'm very passionate about music and played trombone and euphonium for several years, and was drum major in high school. Over the past 4 years I've worked odd jobs as a dishwasher, delivery driver, butcher, cashier, line cook, and housekeeper.

Gerard and Frederique are wonderful and accomodating hosts. Writing this review is difficult, because it means that my time with Henry has ended and he's moved on from Dallas. If you're reading this, and are considering hosting him, I advise you to immediately accept his request because you don't want to miss out on all the magic he brings. He stayed with me longer than any other guest I've ever had (his… read more stay was 2 months and 1 day) and I gained so much from having him.

I can confirm that everything Henry mentions in his profile is accurate – spirituality and seeking are the foundation of his life; he can drive a stick-shift and he does always win at the game Risk (every stinkin time). I could write a million words about Henry, but I'll provide you with a short list of the tasks he was most helpful in.

FITNESS: Henry helped me get into better physical shape by keeping me accountable for going to the gym three times per week. We also went on several long hikes, and many long walks. I can actually see and feel the difference in myself!

He also helped me get into better spiritual and mental shape by suggesting that we meditate at night (rather than in the mornings, which I have always done). In doing so, I was able to get much better sleep – restful sleep had always been a problem for me, but he provided the cure for it. I've slept so amazingly well since he came into my life.

COOKING: this boy can cook! You absolutely must have him make gumbo for you. He made lots of yummy meals, but the gumbo is something I'll never forget.

FRIENDSHIP: the second I read his profile, I knew we'd get along well, but I never expected this level of connection with him. Henry arrived as a stranger, but is leaving as part of my family. He met (and connected with) my closest friends. I'm very selective on who I bring into my inner circle, but he fit right in. He offered to take me down to Austin so I could have Thanksgiving with my mother; she still asks about him every time we talk, and each time she says “aaw, I really like Henry.” She spent just a few hours with him, but still talks about him and always mentions how much she'll miss him.

Henry definitely filled a void in my life, and I'm so grateful to have met him. We both feel that we've been together in previous lives, and that we'll stay in contact in this lifetime; I really hope that's a reality. Because I know him, my life has been changed for the better.
