Hello everyone!

I am Callan and I’m currently a young 31 years old. I am a travel addict and so far have been to 35 countries on 6 different continents. I love to travel to discover - new traditions, new languages, new food, new beliefs, new ways of life. I particularly love any opportunities where life just slows down and we enjoy the simplicity.

I’m not a very traditional person when it comes to work, having kept mostly temporary/contract jobs. The highlight of which was 10 full summers as a summer camp counselor in the United States. I also volunteered as a children’s English teacher in Ukraine for 2 months which was an incredible and impactful experience for me.
My most recent job was working in the activities department of a luxury private island resort in Australia.

In this moment I have joined the workaway crew as I’m keen to get more traditional, hands-on and meaningful experiences. I have mostly been traveling for leisure for the past year and would like to put my time and skills to good use.

I am particularly interested in being involved in community projects, especially farming, as I’d like to learn new skills and gain new knowledge in agriculture, horticulture, permaculture etc. The idea of learning while helping is what motivated me to get involved with workaway. My goal is definitely to find a place where there is lots to do to stay busy and also a great community within.

I am someone who loves to work outdoors and be active. I consider myself a very competent person who learns quickly and can take that new knowledge to come up with my own ideas. I also of course have been working with children for many years and am happy and excited to play, teach and be silly.

I have been cooking a lot since I was a teenager and so consider myself a great cook, and love to learn how to prepare dishes from other cultures and countries. I find a lot of joy in the preparation so honestly can find joy in peeling and cutting vegetables!

At this time my goal is to travel to Nepal, a country I fell in love with last year, to volunteer and deepen my connection with the country and its wonderful people.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

My biggest skill is definitely my brain! I am extremely keen to learn and I learn new skills and knowledge very fast. Once I am taught something I can adapt and extend that knowledge to make suggestions and improvements.


Over 10 years at summer camp I have developed a lot of soft skills:
- Thinking on my feet
- PATIENCE!
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Peacemaking
- Balancing serious with fun
- Living, working and existing harmoniously in close proximity with others.

Working at an island resort I learned:
- Being a tour guide
- Learning information and synthesising it to share with others.
- Lots of cleaning and tidying, especially attention to detail things.
- Teaching quickly and concisely, for example teaching someone the basics of sailing in 5-10 minutes.

Was noch ...

I love to chat and share stories about my travels over the years. I enjoy a good board game, or a book.
I definitely love to walk, hike and trek and to just get outside - especially if we can catch a nice view or a sunset!
I am an easygoing person who finds joy in the little things.
