Hey there :)
I am new to Workaway - I recently finished my studies and I am now off to channel some new energy and explore a bit and meet new people.
I am a very happy-go-lucky person enjoying the little things in life! Literally anything brings me joy, but especially working and being with animals. I am a compassionate, considerate and responsible person. Being outside in nature and seeing things flourish keeps me calm and brings fulfilment. But I also like the thrills of a challenge - this really gets me motivated and gets me hooked. I am up for any type of work - taking care of plants, animals or maintenance of any sorts.
In my free time I like to read, bake or go on hikes :)

Was könntest du arbeiten?
I grew up in the north-western German countryside in a rural village always surrounded by animals - primarily horses and dogs. Growing up, everything was really hands-on me and my siblings were always included in any renovation work and the care care for the animals.
After high school in 2018 I went abroad to Uganda for a year supporting the work of the teachers and administrative staff in a secondary school. During that time I mostly helped on the farm harvesting vegetables and preparing the fields, taking care of the animals, supported music classes, offered sports activities after school and lend a helping hand anywhere where it was needed.
In October 2019 I started my studies in the beautiful city of Freiburg in the southern part of Germany. Now I have just finished my bachelor studies in the area of culture and history - this has definitely shaped the way I engage with the world. During that time I engaged in voluntary work raising awareness for refugees on the Mediterranean. I also went abroad for a semester in Sweden, a wonderful experience where I got to meet amazing people.

I absolutely love board games and card games. Especially card games, I think it is amazing how almost every culture has their own variation of card games - it is a fun activity and great as an ice breaker.
Other than that I am happy about any opportunity and experience that comes along my way! :)

Vom Workawayer (Antonia) für Host (Creating a safe place for ...)

I had an amazing time - and as the name of this place already suggests it is all about living in the moment and adapting to the space, the environment and the needs of the dogs, while at the same time experiencing how one can benefit from leaving the comfort zone and from going with the flow (which I promptly did by staying longer than I had first… read more anticipated ) :)
David was a great host! He is really kind and caring and looks out for the people he is hosting. He expects people to be willing to learn especially when it comes to the training of the dogs and to take responsibility when it comes to the daily tasks with the dogs - which is understandable as the tasks with the dogs is the top priority and basically the only fixed task. For the tasks with the dogs, it is important to have confidence and adaptability - these dogs are all really sweet and great, but not the usual pet dogs you might know. But David provides a great support system like training sessions with a dog trainer and the option for weekly training to get more comfortable with the dogs and of course to advance their training.

The three Turkish rescue dogs, Bir, Iki and Uç, are all really trusting and loving. As they are adolescent dogs, especially the males, can be quite tough to handle and have a mind of their own. But in any case, they are simply the best and are well-trained!

Megan and Golfo are also great. Megan is quite sassy and very food driven which makes training with her much easier! In my time here I learned a lot from her. Just being with her and following her progress was one of the most rewarding things. Golfo is the king of the place, due to his surgery in summer last year he still has to do daily exercises and needs lots of extra care (he loves the extra attention), and he knows how to get it.

Besides the help with the dogs, which was my primary focus, there are tons of other projects and future visions for la finca. I learned some new skills which I believe will come in handy one day (e.g. operating a chainsaw). David always made sure of safety measures which made me feel very safe. With everything, he always made sure I was enjoying the tasks.
In short, he never expected more than taking care of the dogs but he always appreciated any other tasks I did and welcomed it with great appreciation.

Things never got boring for me, and I enjoyed spending time at la finca with the dogs, David, and the other workawayers. It was a great learning experience not just with the dogs but also about myself and navigating the days of living together in one house and coordinating the tasks and appointments.

I am surely missing the place but as I am staying in Spain I will be happy to return soon and see all of the pack again!
