In a world where you can be anything, be kind – that´s the motto I try to live by.
Meeting new people, doing something useful, broadening horizons, discovering the world - that's what I want to spend the next few years doing.
I like the simple life, being out in nature, learning new things. I like working with my hands, learning more about gardening, working with animals.
I believe in the principle of rings in the water, that everything we do has consequences and that we can make a difference by the way we live and treat others. My glass is always half full.
Because of my work as a nurse, I can handle stress, work in a team, and empathize well with others.
I am physically fit best ager, responsible, and actually almost always in a good mood :o)

I can offer help with:
Household chores = cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping etc.
Childcare = all age groups, all chores necessary including help with homework, activities etc.
Animals = my family has animals since I can remember, dogs, cats, rabbits etc.
I am very fond of animals, like to learn more about working with farm animals like chicken, sheep, cows etc.
Gardening = the usual: weeding, pruning, planting etc.
Handicrafts = sewing, needle work, knitting, crocheting
Handy work = painting, fixing things, carpentry like simpler projects such as building shelfs etc.

In my free time I like photography, hiking, reading, meeting people, movies, dancing, doing handicrafts (like to knit Fair Isle patterns)

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Come and help with rescue ...)

A LOVING HOME AWAY FROM HOME – that´s what you can expect when you stay at the place.
Emily and Erik are the nicest hosts EVER!!!
Imagine waking up in a super cozy bed with a cat purring next to you, coming down in the kitchen, where you are greeted by Mia, the adorable (but somewhat cuckoo) Kelpie. After a quick breakfast/coffee you put on your … read more overalls and wellies, give Sam, Pawly and Wiggles (the enormous, beautiful Anatolians) a cuddle - before you start the morning chores, feeding the sheep, horses, donkeys, goats and chickens.
In the meantime, Emily has prepared a fantastic meal for you, which you enjoy all together once the chores are done.
After that you continue with whatever needs to be done – moving hay, cleaning the barn, vaccinate the sheep, weigh the lambs …. I could go on forever, but I guess you get the idea.
After evening chores a wonderful dinner awaits you.
Speaking of food – Emily and Erik are amazing cooks, always making sure that everybody is happy.
And whatever you like, they get it for you (in my case it was oranges and Canadian beer :o)). They really go out of their way to make sure that you have a good time and that you have everything you need.
The farm is a beautiful, cozy, friendly home filled with music, laughter, inspiring discussions, and of course lots of TLC.
There was not a single moment in which I did not feel welcome and appreciated.
Wonderful funny TV-dinners watching Jeopardy (realizing I do not have a clue).
My room on the first floor was spacious with the most comfortable bed you can imagine – the view over the pastures is beautiful.

Emily is very good with people, a great teacher with a wonderful humor and a big heart and the hardest worker I know. I learned sooo much …
Sure, we worked hard, but we (almost) always had a great time, getting things done and we had a lot of fun –lots of laughter, high fives and silliness – we – the workawayers – and Emily were a great team.

A word of advice, though:
Working on a farm is fantastic, rewarding, and meaningful but also tough: hard work in every kind of weather, a big responsibility as you work with living creatures who depend on you, but a great learning experience (about life in general, farming, sheep and of course also about yourself).
So, just finding lambs super cute or the general idea of loving animals won´t cut it: – if you are not willing to commit – this place is not for you.
But if you do, you will LOVE it, I promise!

If Emily wants me back, I will be back for sure next year :o)
