Hello! I’m Marijani — a creative nomad from California with an adventurous spirit, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a genuine curiosity about people, places, and different ways of life.

I love sharing the things that make life richer: beautiful surroundings, delicious food, great music, creative ideas, meaningful conversation, and plenty of laughter.

My curiosity about the world began early. As a child, I was fascinated by different cultures and loved meeting people whose lives and experiences were different from my own. That curiosity has stayed with me throughout my life and has taken me to live, work, travel, and care for homes and properties in many parts of the world. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep appreciation and respect for different cultures, traditions, perspectives, and ways of living.

I’m naturally adaptable and feel equally comfortable in a vibrant city, a peaceful countryside home, a beautiful garden, or a more remote, off-grid setting. I’m independent and resourceful, but I also enjoy being part of a community and contributing wherever I can.

For me, travel is about much more than seeing new places. It’s about connection, learning, exchanging ideas and skills, and experiencing a place through the people who call it home. I value kindness, authenticity, creativity, good communication, and mutual respect — and I try to bring those qualities wherever I go.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Native English speaker and skilled tutor. I am an experienced house sitter/caretaker, with vast experience as a pet sitter(vet tech dispense of meds/ surgery assist skills). I have hosted many people in my own accommodations from around the world, and know how to organize people oversee projects, manage BnB accommodations, welcome guests, and maintain a stylish, clean, comfortable and safe abode. I do have some light renovation and diy skills and interior design savvy. I am always ready to roll up my sleeves and finish tasks.
Bonus: plants will thrive with me-- I have previously developed, owned and operated a botanical garden on a tropical island, so I have a major green-thumb, and have a multitude of experience taking care of indoor/outdoor plants, flower gardens, organic vegetable gardens (Food security Permaculture interest) and cultivating/propagating exotic plant and trees.. I am an early riser. I am always keen to learn something new and share what I have learned. :)

What I Bring

I’ve gathered a wonderfully varied mix of practical, creative, hospitality, and property-care experience over the years — and I genuinely enjoy putting those skills to good use.

I’m an experienced international property caretaker and B&B host and have been entrusted with everything from private homes and apartments to high-end riads, country properties, gardens, pools, and more rural and off-grid settings. I take that trust seriously and care for someone else’s home as thoughtfully as I would my own.

I’m comfortable working independently, noticing what needs attention, solving problems as they arise, and keeping a property clean, secure, organized, and running smoothly. My hands-on experience includes gardens and plant care, irrigation, pools, solar systems, security alarms and gates, power outages, internet and Wi-Fi issues, heating and plumbing concerns, basic maintenance, and coordinating with owners or local tradespeople when something requires professional attention.

Animals have also been an important part of many of my assignments. I’m comfortable caring for dogs, cats, chickens, donkeys, and other animals, including maintaining their routines, feeding, companionship, and keeping their environments clean and comfortable.

Hospitality comes naturally to me. I have experience hosting guests and understand the little details that make people feel genuinely welcome — a beautiful, tidy space, thoughtful communication, good food, warmth, and attention to detail. I’m happy helping with guest preparation, B&B operations, organizing spaces, cooking, shopping, welcoming visitors, and generally helping a home or small hospitality property feel well cared for.

My Creative Side

I’m also an artist and designer, with a lifelong interest in art, interiors, gardens, architecture, textiles, ceramics, and beautiful spaces. I enjoy creative projects and would be delighted to contribute to projects involving art, design, styling, gardening, decorating, photography, cultural initiatives, or helping bring a creative idea to life.

I spent many years involved with tropical plants, gardening, and landscaping in Fiji, so being surrounded by plants and nature feels very much like home to me.

How I Like to Work

I’m mature, dependable, tidy, self-motivated, and comfortable taking responsibility. I don’t need to be constantly directed, but I’m equally happy working alongside others and learning how they prefer things to be done.

I appreciate clear communication and a mutually respectful exchange. I’m enthusiastic about learning new skills and don’t expect every Workaway experience to involve things I already know how to do — discovering something new is part of the adventure.

Most importantly, I bring a positive attitude, curiosity, common sense, and genuine care to the places and people I spend time with.

I’m happiest when an exchange feels just that — an exchange. I contribute my experience, energy, creativity, and care, while getting the opportunity to learn something new, experience everyday life in another place, and hopefully leave with new friends and wonderful memories.
