Ich bin gerade

Beschreibung

After 25 years working for Kodak, I decided that a quarter century was enough, and that I wanted a different life.
I joined a wood/steel/textiles co-op here in Vancouver and started a small hobby business selling my woodwork. So that I wouldn't burn out on a passion, I rented out my home with Airbnb to cover my bills and not have to worry about clients.
This left me with a lot of time on my hands. . . and frequently nowhere to live. In the summer of 2022 I solved that problem by bike touring all summer, around the coast of British Columbia, and then through the Rockies to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
I hope to continue travelling, learning and experiencing new things. My current goals are to relearn my Russian (lost as a child after emigrating to Canada), as well as learn Spanish and German.
I'm handy in the woodshop, although my skills tend more towards fine joinery than carpentry, as well as metal fabrication and welding (mig).
Introverted, left of center politically, non religious, I believe that less is more, and I dance Argentine Tango three nights a week, comfortable in a teaching role for that discipline.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

My career at Kodak was in high tech-low volume manufacturing. It was a very specific set of skills, I'm not too sure how transferable they are outside of a clean room production environment.
I have run my home as an Airbnb for 4+ years, with over 300 reviews and a near 5 star rating (I usually take care of the cleaning myself).
I'm very comfortable in a wood shop. Table saw, chop saw, jointer, planer, drill press, lathe, and hand tools. I also own a small CNC machine.
I have experience with metal fabrication and mig welding, having incorporated steel into my designs as well.

Fluent in English, my Russian is at a conversational level. I hope to have it fluent as well soon.
I've studied Argentine tango for over 10 years, having travelled to Buenos Aires 5 times for instruction. I'm fully invested in the community at home, teaching and helping where I can.
I've camped and hiked all my life, and am comfortable in various outdoor environments.
