I'm Monica, 41, a citizen of the world even if my soul is definitely Italian.

I spent several years working in fashion as a Visual Merchandiser, living and working in different countries. A few years ago, I decided to leave my permanent job, go back to studying something completely different, and stop being stuck in a life I wasn't satisfied with.

Since then, I've done a bit of everything: I've taught in primary and preschool, worked as a bartender, babysitter and summer camp educator, while trying to dedicate as much time as possible to one of my biggest passions: tape art.

I'm a creative and hands-on person. I love making things, transforming spaces and working on visual projects — especially murals and large-scale artworks. My main medium is adhesive tape, but I'm also happy to get my hands dirty with paint and other materials.

Travelling is a huge part of my life. I don't just want to visit places — I like staying long enough to understand how people live, meeting local communities and feeling part of a place, even if only for a while. That's also why I enjoy volunteering while travelling: for me it's a completely different way of experiencing a country.

I'm adaptable, independent, curious, practical and not afraid of getting my hands dirty. I'm equally happy working on an art project, helping with children, painting a wall, serving drinks or learning something I've never done before.

And yes, I have a slight obsession with adhesive tape. 😄

Soy Monica, tengo 41 años, ciudadana del mundo aunque mi alma es definitivamente italiana.

Trabajé durante varios años en el mundo de la moda como Visual Merchandiser, viviendo y trabajando en diferentes países. Hace unos años decidí dejar mi trabajo fijo, volver a estudiar algo completamente diferente y dejar de sentirme atrapada en una vida que ya no me hacía feliz.

Desde entonces he hecho un poco de todo: he trabajado como maestra en escuelas de primaria e infantil, como camarera, niñera y educadora en campamentos de verano, intentando al mismo tiempo dedicar todo el tiempo posible a una de mis grandes pasiones: el tape art.

Soy una persona creativa y muy práctica. Me encanta crear cosas, transformar espacios y trabajar en proyectos visuales, especialmente murales y obras de gran formato. Mi material principal es la cinta adhesiva, pero también estoy encantada de ensuciarme las manos con pintura y otros materiales.

Viajar es una parte muy importante de mi vida. No me interesa simplemente visitar lugares: me gusta quedarme el tiempo suficiente para entender cómo vive la gente, conocer las comunidades locales y sentirme parte de un lugar, aunque sea solo por un tiempo. Por eso también me gusta hacer voluntariado mientras viajo: para mí es una manera completamente diferente de conocer y vivir un país.

Soy adaptable, independiente, curiosa, práctica y no tengo ningún problema en ensuciarme las manos. Puedo disfrutar igual trabajando en un proyecto artístico, ayudando con niños,, pintando una pared, sirviendo copas o aprendiendo algo que nunca he hecho antes.

Y sí, tengo una pequeña obsesión con la cinta adhesiva. 😄

I'm a tape artist and I'd love to create murals and art projects around the world. Tape art can also be a great way to transform walls, spaces and even old furniture, giving things a new life instead of throwing them away.

I also worked as a Visual Merchandiser for ten years, so I have plenty of experience with spaces, displays, styling, decorating and hands-on creative projects. I love seeing the potential in a place and finding creative, low-cost ways to transform it.

I'm also happy to paint, renovate, decorate, build things, work with children or simply get my hands dirty wherever help is needed.

Was noch ...

A few years ago, I started questioning the direction my life and career were taking. After many years in the fashion industry, I gradually decided to move away from that world, partly for ethical reasons, and look for something that felt more meaningful and closer to my values.

I'm currently studying to become a handwriting and graphomotor educator, working with children who struggle with handwriting and difficulties such as dysgraphia. This new path, together with my experience teaching in primary and preschool, has brought me much closer to education and working with children.

At the same time, I haven't abandoned my creative side — quite the opposite. Art is still a big part of my life, especially tape art, and I love finding ways to bring creativity into education, community projects and shared spaces.

I'm also writing a children's book inspired by the true story of my dog, Laguna. I met her during my last trip to Guatemala, on Lake Atitlán, and eventually brought her all the way back home to Italy with me. Her journey from the streets of San Pedro La Laguna to a completely different life in Italy was too good a story not to tell!

I guess I'm still figuring out exactly where all these different paths — education, art, travelling and storytelling — will take me. And that's also one of the reasons I travel: I like meeting people who live differently, learning new things, sharing skills and discovering possibilities I wouldn't necessarily find at home.

Hace unos años empecé a cuestionarme la dirección que estaban tomando mi vida y mi carrera. Después de muchos años trabajando en el mundo de la moda, poco a poco decidí alejarme de ese sector, en parte por razones éticas, y buscar algo que tuviera más sentido para mí y estuviera más en sintonía con mis valores.

Actualmente estoy estudiando para convertirme en educadora del gesto gráfico y la escritura, trabajando con niños que tienen dificultades con la escritura, como la disgrafía. Este nuevo camino, junto con mi experiencia como maestra en primaria e infantil, me ha acercado mucho más al mundo de la educación y al trabajo con niños.

Al mismo tiempo, no he dejado de lado mi parte creativa; todo lo contrario. El arte sigue siendo una parte muy importante de mi vida, especialmente el tape art, y me encanta encontrar formas de llevar la creatividad a la educación, a proyectos comunitarios y a espacios compartidos.

También estoy escribiendo un libro infantil inspirado en la historia real de mi perrita, Laguna. La conocí durante mi último viaje a Guatemala, en el Lago Atitlán, y al final terminé llevándomela conmigo hasta Italia. ¡Su viaje desde las calles de San Pedro La Laguna hasta una vida completamente diferente en Italia era una historia demasiado bonita como para no contarla!

Supongo que todavía estoy descubriendo adónde me llevarán todos estos caminos —la educación, el arte, los viajes y la escritura—. Y esa es también una de las razones por las que viajo: me gusta conocer a personas que viven de maneras diferentes, aprender cosas nuevas, compartir habilidades y descubrir posibilidades que probablemente nunca encontraría quedándome en casa.
