Hi there!
My name is Mona, I am 29 years old and from a small town in the northwest of Germany.
I am currently waiting for my Australian visa to be approved, so I have some time to spend!

Right now I am travelling a bit through Europe (Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina...) and I think, November would be a good time to do a Workaway. ✨️

I would describe myself as calm and peace-loving person, friendly, attentive and motivated. I am not a party-person, but I love to chat over a cup of coffee or glass of wine and go for walks.
Last year I discovered yoga for myself - I joined classes and loved to both having a physical challenge and being able to connect with myself. It's so important to take time for one's self and breath. How else are you supposed to love others, when you don't care for yourself?
Other then that I love spending time in nature and going on walks or hikes, reading, drawing, baking (I have an amazing brownie recipe!), listening to music and, when I am at my parent's house, gardening and taking care of some indoor plants.

Over the past few years I have worked in various jobs across Europe, Canada and Australia - mostly customer or guest related, for example as travel agent, guest services agent in a ski centre, hotel receptionist...
I love working with people - especially in the tourism and leisure industry - it's fun to help when I can, making the guests' experiences more enjoyable, connecting with them, making them smile.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

* I am great with people when it comes to customer or guest services jobs! I have experience as travel agent, guest services agent in a ski centre and hotel receptionist. I am open-minded, attentive, detail-oriented and love greeting everyone with a smile. :)

* housekeeping: I used to work as room attendant in an Australian 3-star hotel. And in Germany I sometimes help out my neighbour who is renting out holiday apartments that obviously need cleaning.

* cooking and baking: I am by no means a professional chef, but I like to try new recipes and preparing snacks / fingerfood for get-togethers with family and friends (and nobody ever complained about my food 😁).

* childcare: I have a niece and three nephews aged 0-6 who I love to bits! I know how to change nappies and bottle-feed, bring them to bed, playing... but of course, every child is different, so I wouldn't want to generalize my childcare skills.
When I was aged 16-20 I did several internships - 6 weeks in a kindergarten, 4 weeks in an afternoon childcare for primary school kids, 4 weeks in a day care group for teenagers with "special family background" - and I spent a week as a camp counsellor in a summer camp for German kids in England, though I realized that I don't really want to work with children as my profession.
In 2021 I did a Workaway in Canada, staying with a family in Alberta - I had different tasks on the property (mowing the lawn, gardening, some painting, light household tasks) and from time to time I was supervising their daugters (5 and 6 years old) and I connected with them by drawing and painting. I showed them how to draw some things, and I think they really enjoyed to calm their mind by creating art.

* animal care: My parents have a jack russel terrier named Polly (she's on one of my pictures) and I love to spend time with her. And my brother has a labrador named Ella who I sometimes pet-sit.
In 2018 I was volunteering in a wild animal rescue centre in Ecuador - only for a week but it was a great experience and I enjoyed learning more about animals.

I believe that what is more important than skills, is the motivation to learn and engage. So please don't hesitate to reach out, even if you're not sure if my skill set matches your needs - we can figure it out together. 😊

Was noch ...

My reason for traveling is to get out of my comfort zone. I want to experience things that I might never have thought of back in Germany.
It would be a shame if I didn't have the skills that you normally expect from Workawayers. But if you want to give it a try, I promise you that I will do everything possible to make it worthwhile for you. I am hardworking, have a positive attitude and - most importantly - I am motivated to learn.
