Hola! My name is Lindsay and I'm 29 years old from California. I currently live in San Diego with my partner and our precious pup! I am planning on taking off some time between August-December to explore Central and/or South America. I work as a speech and language pathologist in an elementary school and I'm passionate about supporting children with disabilities to communicate! I work with students ages 4-8 years old with a varying degree of needs and it both brings me so much joy and keeps me on my toes! Everyday I am challenged to think outside the box and practice patience and presence with my students. If you can't tell, I love my job! Outside of work I love tending to our small garden and cooking at home. I love being active and depending on the season surf, hike, camp, backpack, ski, practice yoga, and bike!

I haven't travelled for a significant period of time (more than 2 months) in almost a decade and the idea of immersing myself in another culture, learning the language, connecting with the people, eating the local food, hearing music, and learning new types of dance is so thrilling to me! I am pretty flexible and I can find 'home' in a lot of places, which makes the uncertainties of traveling much easier for me. I tend to be the 'peacemaker' in groups finding truth in everyone's perspectives and am told that I'm easy to talk to. I am looking for a Workaway where I can practice and immerse myself in Spanish, be part of a community, and make new friends. I take weekly Spanish lessons and took 8 years of Spanish growing up though consider myself a novice/intermediate speaker who can struggle through basic conversations. I am hopeful that I can become more fluent with travel and immersion!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I love working with kids and have a lot of experience working with individuals with disabilities. I've worked with children with disabilities doing life-skills training, tutoring, or acting as a camp counselor. I also have experience working on a farm and gardening and absolutely love being outdoors! I am a hard worker and driven and goal-oriented individual who adapts to different situations or tasks quickly. I love animals and thrive in environments where i get to work with them!

Was noch ...

While I love staying active, I can also easily settle down with a great book and have no problem sitting and reading or journalling for hours. I love learning new games with friends and currently love playing the board game, Cascadia featuring habitats and wildlife in the pacific northwest united states.
