Beschreibung
Hi, my name is Leo, I'm a 40-year-old guy from southern Italy.
I have been working as a tour guide for 15y, taking English-speaking tourists around my region and showing them the area. It's a rural region with quaint stone villages and Mediterranean beaches.
And now, I want to stay in nature as long and as deeply immersed as I possibly can.
Years back, I've joined a number of volunteering projects around Europe. Met people, seen places, been outdoors a lot. I've learned English and a fair bit of Spanish and French.
Although it's been a long time now working with people, I can do things with my hands. I have worked on farms, and I've built stuff in the past.
I invite you to check out the skills section below, where I have gone more in details about what is roughly my experience and my interests.
When I'm off work I like to play games, have conversations, take walks. I always enjoy meeting new people.
However, small talk isn't particularly my thing, and when there is enough people chatting in a room, I tend to compensate and stay quiet.
I am a harmony lover. We all have opinions that we gather in our lifetime, but opinions change, so they matter up to a point. I look forward to joining projects with peaceful atmosphere, to learning the little hacks that make life interesting, to meeting people, and why not, maybe to committing to something.
Cheers folks.
Thanks for reading. -

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Hey there ...
so, as I said in the main description above, I've joined a number of other projects over the years, both at home with friends and abroad via workaway. Plus, I've always been versatile, and often jumped right into something for a while, learnt a bit, explored and moved to something else. Here's how I touched upon many a field of interest:
- Natural construction: I've helped build with cob bricks, and other natural materials (glass bottles, hay bales, cane sticks, wood and stone). A cob brick pizza oven, an outdoor fireplace, a few small cabins, plastering houses, a few patios. This happened back in Puglia during my university years, in Albania in 2020 (5 months workaway in a village-community), in Serbia and Portugal between 2020 and 2021. Not an expert, I can't be directing a worksite, but definitely I am aquainted with the tecniques, and happy to learn more and to dirty my hands with earth again.
- Farming: I've found myself in farms many times. Back home I've joined a small organic farm during a whole wintertime, attending to all there was to do, broccoli, fennel, salad, cabbage, onion, and so on, and that was the longest bit of time I've followed closely the growth process. In that occasion I also attended a huge citrus grove (lemons, oranges, mandarines), and an olive grove (the olive oil making process is something very common where I'm from, and which I've done a few times). Other than that, I've planted and collected in Romania ('21, huge community in the mountains), and a few other wwoof projects in Italy. Actually, what I like the most is collecting fruit from trees. I'm also keen on wild herbs collecting. I'd like to learn more about essential oil making (I've done it once in Calabria, from rosemary, lovely experience). Fermenting food, making preserves, sun-drying tecniques, are all things I'm familiar with, and I like.
The whole garden growing management though, I give it's a broad commitment, and I don't come from a farming family, so I'd love to help and learn, but I'm less keen.
And then the thousand little tasks that farms demand, weeding, pruning trees, chopping wood, tending to chickens, etc.
I have also worked with animals on a couple of occasions (buffalo farm was interesting).
- Woodworking: I have studied interior design, so when I had access to wood and scrap material I put myself to test. I've built many things for the community in Albania, three big benches, a big platform/deck, tables, chairs and stools. I've built a big library and a couple of cupboards for another project in Tuscany. I've built many tables and benches for another big project in Albania, 2022, Gjipe beach, it was a huge lounge area on a beach. I like whittling, building with my hands, and I've always had good skills and dexterity and inventiveness with my hands. I can paint as well. I've worked in arts and creativity at home, so yeah, I may have a good eye for those things.
- Cooking: in Albania '20 we used to make sourdough bread every day, but it s something I haven't quite been doing since, and I would love to get a broader and better grasp on the art of bread-making. I like bread a lot, and it's definitely something I'd like to become expert in.
Albania '22 I used to prepare home-made fresh noodles for locals. That is something I am very familiar with, something very common in my family, like in many Italian families, and it's one things I always end up doing when I am visiting a new place, or just when we want to add to the joy of a meal. Obviously, I can cook the noodles to the best standard as well.
Other than that, as I said, fermenting food, and doing preserves, especially oil preserves, is something I enjoy very much. I would love to learn more about sour preserves, I know that is also a very broad area.
I am 41 now, and I know better what I like. I like working at a good pace, no rush, no pause. I like nature and peace of mind. I like feeling the bustling of natural life around me, and flowing through my hands. I like the feeling of learning, aquiring knowledge by doing, been given the time to receive, express, share and exchange.
Important: about taking initiative, I am at mid-spectrum. I have certain specific knowledge and can take on very specific tasks on my own, but I am not the kind of guy that takes up a farm or project and has a solution for everything. I work best when led overall, contributing with a certain deal of ideas, independency, common sense.
I believe in interconnectedness of individuals, where everyone brings about something unique, and there is a larger structure that keeps things in place and moving, respecting and respected by every individual.
I respect when there is a knowledgeable leadership, and I am ready to follow directions. At the same time, when there is more of a peer-to-peer kind of interaction within the group, I can happily go along with that, and ready to take my share of responsability.
Projects I joined:
Switzerland sep'19: a big household, painting and renovation
Denmark oct-nov'19: a yoga centre retreat, construction
Lucania (ita) jan'20: permaculture farm
Albania feb-jun'20: community building, woodworking, furniture, fruit collecting, cob building, landscape, cooking
Portugal aug'20: countryside household, natural construction
Serbia feb-mar'21: cob plastering
Romania apr-jun'21: farming/construction, community
Tuscany/Puglia (ita) sep'21-mar'22: organic farming, woodworking, oil making, fruit picking
Albania may-sep'22: woodworking, hospitality
Puglia (ita) oct-dec'22: buffalo farm
Austria jan-mar'23: housekeeping
Calabria (ita) nov-dec'24: farming, collecting herbs, fruit picking
Morocco feb-mar '26: language school
PS: guys, I have never been good at keeping photos, and most of the pictures of my old projects got lost with my old workaway profile. I have no social media accounts either, I am a bit old school :) -
