What makes me happiest is spending time with people and being part of a community. I love sharing everyday life, working together, learning from one another, and getting to know people from different cultures. For me, some of the best moments are often the simplest ones, cooking and eating together, having meaningful conversations, laughing, singing together, or ending the day knowing that we achieved something as a team.

I also feel happiest when I'm outdoors. Growing up in the countryside gave me a strong connection to nature, and I love spending time outside. Being surrounded by nature, caring for animals, gardening, or simply enjoying the fresh air always makes me feel grounded. Sustainability has become really important to me over the years, and I'm excited to keep learning more about it through Workaway.

I also really enjoy spending time with children. Their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm make every day different, and I love joining in their adventures, playing games, reading stories, doing crafts, or simply seeing the world through their eyes. Spending time with children always leaves me smiling, and I admire how they can find joy in the smallest things. In the future, I hope to become a primary school teacher, so every opportunity to spend time with children, support them, and learn alongside them is something I truly appreciate.

Music (especially singing and playing the piano) , sports, and being active are also an important part of my life. They give me energy, help me stay balanced.

For me, Workaway is a chance to step out of my comfort zone, experience everyday life from a completely different perspective, and build genuine connections with people I might never have met otherwise. I hope to contribute wherever I can and learn something new every day.

I would be happy to teach my native language (German). I am also speaking good English and learned some Spanish in school. So I would really appreciate to improve my language skills espeacially in real-life situations. I would also love the opportunity to learn other languages and discover new cultures through language exchange.

I have several years of experience working with children through my local community. I regularly help with children's activities, where I spend time playing, doing crafts, organizing activities, and looking after groups of children. Since I hope to become a primary school teacher in the future, working with children is something I truly enjoy and would be happy to contribute.

Since I was 15, I have also been working part-time in a ceramics shop. Through this job, I have learned to communicate with many different people, take responsibility, and work as part of a team. One thing I especially enjoy is helping others be creative, encouraging their ideas, and seeing how happy people are when they create something with their own hands.

On the other hand I grew up in the countryside with a garden, so I have been involved in gardening from a young age. My parents and grandparents taught me the basics, and I enjoy helping with planting, weeding, harvesting, and other outdoor tasks. I am especially interested in organic gardening and sustainable ways of living.

Although I don't have much experience with manual work yet, I'd really love to learn more. I enjoy working with my hands, I'm not afraid to get stuck in, and I'm always happy to try something new.

I am also happy to help with everyday tasks around the house, cooking, cleaning, caring for animals, or wherever an extra pair of hands is needed. I like practical work and appreciate being part of a team where everyone contributes.

I love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen without always following a recipe. I enjoy hiking, discovering new places, and spending time in nature. Music is also a big part of my life, I love singing and playing the piano. I would like to get better at photography, because until now I have mostly collected memories in my mind rather than with a camera. I am excited to learn and capture special moments in a new way.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Peaceful family home for ...)

I spent six weeks with Iolanda and her son near Vigo, mainly helping with childcare. My tasks included preparing breakfast and sometimes lunch for school, walking her son to the bus stop in the morning, picking him up in the early afternoon, preparing lunch and looking after him in the evenings, for example when Iolanda went to sports. The last … read more week of my stay Iolanda did not need much help with taking care of her son so I did some more chores around the house instead.

The routine wasn't exactly the same every day, but we usually planned the week together. If I had a meeting in the evening, that was no problem as long as we discussed it in advance. Plans could sometimes change spontaneously, though, so being a little flexible was helpful.

Overall, the arrangement worked well. Iolanda's son needed some time to get comfortable with me, which is completely understandable when a new person becomes part of a child's everyday life. It's good to be aware of this and give the relationship time to develop. Even though I stayed for six weeks, building a connection took a while, so I would recommend staying for a longer period if you really want to become part of their routine.

Communication was never a problem, as Iolanda and her son both speak English very well. They encouraged me to point out small mistakes or repeat things in a different way if they hadn't fully understood something, which made communication easy and helped us learn from each other. We also tried to speak Spanish twice a week, an idea suggested by Iolanda that I really appreciated. It helped me learn new vocabulary and become a little more confident speaking Spanish.

There was generally quite a lot of free time. The working hours were spread throughout the day, with longer breaks while her son was at school or in the afternoon. Having a bicycle made it easy to get to the beach, and the ferry was within walking distance, so travelling to Vigo for shopping or exploring the city was convenient.

Iolanda also made an effort to include me in her life outside the daily routine. We went on a few trips together, and she invited me to join her when visiting friends, where I got to try traditional food. Although she was very busy with work during my stay and didn't always have time to go to the local market or show me as much of Galician life as she might have liked, she still made an effort and showed me more when she had some extra time.

Iolanda and her son are very close and have their own established routine, so adjusting to their family dynamic as a third person took me a little time. At first, I sometimes found it difficult to figure out my place in their everyday life and to get used to the fact that it was also completely fine to do my own thing rather than share everything with them. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the area, enjoy the beaches and discover Galicia at your own pace.

My room was spacious, and having my own bathroom was a real plus. It gave me a comfortable space to retreat to and have some privacy.

Overall, I had a good experience and appreciated the flexibility, the free time and the opportunity to practise Spanish and experience everyday life in Galicia. I would recommend this stay to someone who enjoys spending time with children, is patient when building a connection and is also happy to organise their own free time independently.
