Hi! My name is Kinsey. I’m so excited to connect with new people, share meaningful experiences, and continue learning through travel. I studied abroad in Barcelona during my junior year of college (I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in accounting) and completely fell in love with the city—the culture, the energy, and the people stayed with me long after I left, which is what brings me back now!

I’m passionate about inspiring others, spreading love, and making genuine connections. I’ve worked as a babysitter and absolutely love spending time with kids their creativity, honesty, and curiosity always make my day. I also enjoy cooking, gardening, doing yoga, reading, sewing, and creating in any way I can. I especially love pottery and working with my hands. Being outside in the sun, sharing good food, and soaking up the beauty in everyday life are things that bring me so much happiness.

I look forward to meeting you, learning from you, and hopefully leaving a positive impact wherever I go!

I majored in Accounting in college, which gave me a strong foundation in organization, attention to detail, and responsibility. But my passions extend far beyond numbers. I’m also a very creative and hands-on person. I’m skilled in a wide range of artistic activities, and I especially love cooking, gardening, sewing, and pottery. I truly enjoy working with my hands and creating things!

I have extensive experience working with children, having babysat kids aged 3 to 13. I’ve cared for up to four children at once, and I genuinely enjoy building trust and connection with each child. I bring patience, positive energy, and clear communication to every interaction, and I love creating fun and engaging activities that inspire curiosity and creativity.

I’m highly adaptive and always excited to try new things. I love learning whether it's picking up a new skill, diving into a new culture, or figuring out how to help someone in the best way possible. My approach is rooted in kindness, motivation, and a deep desire to contribute wherever I go.

In my free time, I love staying active. Yoga and hiking are two of my favorite ways to move and recharge. Being in nature is really grounding for me, and I enjoy exploring new trails or simply soaking up the sun. I also love playing board games (especially ones that get everyone laughing!), having deep conversations, and sharing meals with others. I’m always up for trying something new and love connecting over shared interests and experiences.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Warm and welcoming family in ...)

I did not originally intend to leave a review because I wanted to avoid conflict, but I feel it’s important to share my experience so future au pairs can make informed decisions. When I agreed to join this family, their profile and our initial meeting described a typical au pair arrangement: helping with the children and doing light household tasks. However, the reality was very different once I arrived.

Despite this, I tried to be kind, patient, and open to getting to know them. Unfortunately, that effort wasn’t reciprocated. They rarely engaged with me unless assigning tasks and were often dismissive when I asked questions. It quickly became clear they viewed me less as an au pair and more as a free housemaid.
My daily responsibilities ended up being almost entirely cleaning: washing dishes, doing laundry, making beds, cleaning the porch, raking the yard, organizing the house, constantly tidying up after the family, and more. I would leave the kitchen spotless at night only to wake up to a mess again in the morning.
There were also interactions that made me feel unwelcome. During my first week, I thawed a piece of salmon to cook for myself and was later told I shouldn’t have eaten it because Sergi was upset and thought it was his. I was then told not to work the next day because he needed his space, which made me feel uneasy even preparing my own food.
I often felt like I was walking on eggshells. While I cleaned, Sergi would sometimes walk in and tell me to “go do something else,” but refused to specify what. When I asked questions, I was frequently met with irritation, making it extremely difficult to understand their expectations.
We were supposed to have weekly meetings to improve communication, but Sergi did not attend a single one. In the meetings with Eva, I clearly explained that I felt I was doing housemaid work and that I wanted more time with the children as we originally agreed. She said they would “see what they could do,” but nothing changed.
On one of the last meetings, after voicing my concerns again, I was told I needed to leave within three weeks. A week later, they changed this and told me to leave within four days, despite me explaining I had nowhere to go yet. They continued to push for an earlier departure. The host dad, who rarely spoke to me the entire time I lived there, stopped me at the door one day and insisted again that I needed to leave. The conversation was extremely uncomfortable, and I told him I would see what I could do just to end the interaction.
Another isolating aspect was the lack of family connection. The family didn’t eat a single meal together the entire time I stayed with them. Despite this, I tried to join at the table to create a sense of community, but I was rarely included unless they needed something fetched or cleaned. Eventually, I stopped coming to meals because it was clear the cultural and family experience I had hoped for was not going to happen.
This experience was heartbreaking because I was genuinely excited to join a family, learn from a new culture, and build meaningful relationships. Instead, I felt isolated, disrespected, and used for free household labor. Overall, the expectations did not match what was agreed upon. As a young women it is scary to move to another country and be treated so poorly and I hope by writing this message no one has to experience what I did.
