I am Dutch-American, now living in the Netherlands for 23 years.

Beschreibung

In 1991 I backpacked through Europe for 3 months. My dear friend and I were 22, wide-eyed, and learning a lot. The places were extraordinary, the people, humbling. We had Eurail passes, determined to burn them up, flitting from place to place. At times taking an overnight train, to anywhere, just to have a place to sleep. Since then I've also enjoyed the slow, soak it in, manner of travel.

In 2001 I travelled to Amsterdam (from Virginia USA), with no contacts, no job... giving myself three months to “find a sign”, which I did... and here, 23 years later, I still am.
I managed to get my foot in the door of a good job, worked my behind off, and 13 years later, I had saved enough to semi-retire, allowing myself to travel even more, work on my 99 year old home, and do more Improv. I love the Improv key principle of "Yes, and!..."

What brings me happiness? Simple things, cleaning the garden, repurposing “street gifts”, fixing up my home. Live music, mostly in small cosy venues, but the occasional Arena rock is appreciated.

I had a 1974 Bedford Bus, which I tootled about in all across the UK. Sadly, on the way down to Barcelona, the engine decided it would quit every time I took my foot off the gas.
I have just started building a new (2012) stealthy camper, for my next adventures.

I am well-aware that life is truly short. I've found the sweet spot of being just “rich” enough to not work so much, living humbly, enjoying experiences.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I enjoy working with my hands. My 99 year-old home has helped me hone my skills, painting, patching... making weathered things new again. I have a kitchen cabinet made from a found-pallet. I designed the wooden table under my bathroom sink. I am comfortable using my proudly owned small power tools; saw, drill, sander...

I also enjoy practicing improv, improvisational theater games, the art of making unscripted theater. First and foremost, it's all about fun, though, given my background in communications, I could readily see how the games and exercises can be useful on many levels.
I'd be happy to host an improv workshop among any group of people interested. Improv can be done anywhere.

My softer skills are in the area of Communications, having studied and worked in various capacities, from a Psychiatric hospital, to TV & Radio production, to Corporate. My favorite parts of these jobs were in the areas that called for creativity, creating memorable events, and promoting engagement among the people.
