We're Giorgia and Valeria, we've just graduated in foreign languages. We've been studying English, French, German and Spanish for three years at university. Before starting a new university in September in order to complete our path we would like to live an experience abroad for two months. We're friendly and sociable, we enjoy meeting new people and discovering new cultures. This is why we are applying for this experience to practice the languages we study and to live the real local experience.

Thanks to our studies we already know some languages. However, this experience will make us practice languages and will help us becoming even more fluent. Since we studied languages, we would also like to help someone who wants to improve his/her level.

What's more, we are able to fit in every context, we can work in team and we're open minded: we'll perfectly respect roots and traditions of other countries. We also are able to stay with kids; Valeria has two little cousins she takes care of and she also helps them with homeworks. Giorgia babysits two children at least once a week. Besides, during our three years of university both of us helped younger students to study and to do their homework. For this reason, we can easily deal with kids and teenagers, we're creative and we know how to entertain them. Besides, we love nature and we like taking care of animals.

We like listening to music, walking and swimming and we would like to visit every museums and exhibitions in new cities to get to know the culture. We also enjoy spending time with our friends or family while playing board games or while watching a movie.

vom Host (Join us and enjoy life in ...) für Workawayer ()

Thank you for your time and help during your stay with us. Unfortunately, there were some misunderstandings from the beginning regarding what the Workaway program entails, which ultimately led to your 3-star feedback.
After over 12 years of hosting volunteers—with only 5-star reviews until now—this was the first time some tasks on the volunteer’s… read more daily to-do list were crossed off but not fully completed. That being said, we appreciate the effort you did put in; the windows are now sparkling clean, and the terrace is ready for summer.
As per the agreement, we could have requested up to four hours of work per day in exchange for free accommodation and food, but we kept the workload fairly light. While you completed your assigned tasks well, the extra free time could have been used to explore the area.
Our profile clearly states the types of tasks we request around the home and garden. Working in the garden and handling occasional “dirtier” tasks (like cleaning up leaves where there may be some insects) are part of the program, and if this is a concern, Workaway may not be the right fit.
The two "messy house" tasks we requested—sorting cans and food by expiration date in the storage room and cleaning the herb and spice jars in the kitchen—were straightforward and standard in our experience. Other tasks were general housework, which is customary in this type of exchange.
We always provided a variety of food, including cheese, ham, eggs, bread, butter, yogurt, milk, jam, fruit, vegetables, pasta,rice, tea and coffee, sauces, caned food and ingredients for baking. Additionally, we ensured gluten-free options were available for Valeria, such as gluten-free flour, cookies, and sauces. However, as per our agreement, any special ingredients for meals prepared exclusively for your personal use were your responsibility to purchase.
While we do eat meat once or twice a week, we made sure all meals were gluten-free to accommodate Valeria’s dietary needs. However, instead of joining us for meals, you preferred to cook separately, preparing your own warm meals twice a day. The cultural exchange aspect of Workaway includes sharing meals and trying new foods, but unfortunately, this was not something you were open to.
During occasional shared mealtimes, you continued speaking only in Italian with each other, making it difficult for us to connect. This limited our ability to engage in conversation and further isolated you from our daily routine. We had hoped for more participation in our cultural exchange, particularly through conversations in English or German during meals. A greater interest in our German culture and traditions would have made the experience more enriching for both sides.
For future stays, we wish you both all the best. You may want to consider a program that does not involve work in exchange for accommodation and food, as it may be a better match for your expectations.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join us and enjoy life in ...)

We were hosted by Elke's family for two months, and overall, the experience was positive. Some of the highlights included the proximity of Fürstenwalde to Berlin, which made weekend trips possible, and sometimes even weekday trips.
