About Us

We’re Will (26, Cornwall, UK) and Fil (professional photographer and creative director). We thrive on meeting new people, getting stuck into hands-on work, and bringing creative energy to everything we do. Between us, we have a mix of practical skills, artistic flair, and plenty of hospitality experience.

We share a love for community, sustainability, and learning new things. We know each other’s strengths, work seamlessly as a team, and honestly cannot think of a challenge we could not figure out together.

Our Backgrounds

Will
I currently work as a cartographer, which means I design and create detailed maps using a mix of technical precision and creativity. Alongside this, I have professional experience in project management, planning work from start to finish, coordinating with people, and keeping everything running smoothly.

I grew up on a small farm in Cornwall, looking after chickens and pigs, tending to vegetable patches through the summer, and turning the harvest into things like chilli pickles and preserves. That early experience taught me the value of hard work, care for animals, and the satisfaction of living close to the land.

Over the past few years, I have been involved in community-focused projects in Bristol, including running a local garden, delivering food parcels, mentoring adults with learning disabilities, and starting a volunteer litter-picking group. I have also worked on construction-based Workaway projects abroad, including building in the Moroccan desert, and I am no stranger to physical, outdoor, or “get your hands dirty” jobs.

From chopping wood and using chainsaws to building fences and garden walls, I enjoy practical work and doing things properly. I have also led a long-distance wild camping trip across Sardinia, navigating off-grid and adapting quickly when plans changed.

Fil
I am a professional photographer and creative director, with experience shooting for Sustainable Fashion Week and running creative projects that champion eco-conscious living. I promote sustainability awareness at festivals and have a strong eye for detail, whether I am behind a camera, crafting something by hand, or repurposing items to make them beautiful and often funny.

I have extensive hospitality experience, from front-of-house to event organisation, and I have taken on challenges such as completing the Welsh Three Peaks charity hike. I am energetic, creative, and love bringing people together through shared experiences.

Why We’re Here

Workaway is a chance for us to share our skills, learn from others, and immerse ourselves in new ways of living. We want to help out wherever we can, whether that is building, cooking, teaching, documenting projects through photography and video, or simply bringing a bit of energy and care to a place.

We are also excited to try new things along the way, from learning local crafts to, for Will, finally picking up surfing after years of bodyboarding in Cornwall.

We both have a strong interest in languages and see them as a key part of cultural exchange. Will holds a TEFL qualification and has experience supporting learners in conversational English, helping them build confidence in a relaxed and informal setting. He enjoys both teaching and learning from others, and is keen to develop his skills in new languages while travelling. Fil is equally enthusiastic about language exchange and enjoys picking up phrases, expressions, and cultural nuances wherever we go. She has experience interacting with people from a wide range of backgrounds through her photography work and hospitality roles, and is always keen to learn the local language basics to help connect with guests and communities. We would be happy to contribute to any language-learning activities for hosts, guests, or local community members, as well as participate in exchanges that help us grow our own skills.

Alongside our practical and creative skills, we both enjoy activities that foster connection, wellbeing, and positive energy. Will is a musician who plays guitar and sings, and he’s happy to teach music or lead informal jam sessions, a great way to bring people together and create lasting memories.

We’re both passionate about mental health and wellbeing. Will has experience supporting people through music and community projects, and we value open, respectful communication and creating safe, supportive spaces wherever we go.

In our downtime, we enjoy board games and friendly competition, which we find a wonderful way to bond and build teamwork. We’re always up for teaching and learning new games, and bringing a bit of fun to group gatherings.

Fil enjoys craft and artistic projects that often involve repurposing and upcycling, turning everyday objects into quirky, beautiful pieces. This aligns with our shared commitment to sustainability and creativity.
