I’m Elijah — an Australian-Indonesian who grew up in Singapore, attended university in Chicago, and now calls San Francisco home. My life has always been shaped by moving between worlds, and that’s made me genuinely curious about people, cultures, and the stories behind them. I’m the kind of person who feels most alive when I’m somewhere unfamiliar, figuring things out.

By day I work as an investor, partnering with entrepreneurs building technology companies. It’s a job that’s taught me to listen carefully, ask good questions, and find common ground with almost anyone. Outside of work, you’ll find me hiking trails around the Bay, hunting down a great meal, or planning my next trip.

Food is honestly my favourite hobby. I eat everything and anything — the more local, the better. Growing up in a multi-cultural household means I have a deep appreciation for how much a meal can tell you about a place and its people.

I’ve spent meaningful time in volunteer work in education. For ten years I taught English to primary school students in Singapore, during college in Chicago I ran financial literacy workshops for local high school kids, and the last several years in San Francisco I’ve helped advice college students on job recruiting. All these experiences reinforced something I already believed: that showing up, being present, and genuinely caring about someone’s growth makes all the difference.

I’m coming to Workaway because I want to slow down, use my hands, and connect with people and places in a way that travel alone doesn’t offer. I’m hard-working, easy-going, adaptable, and I promise I’ll be enthusiastic about whatever is cooking!
