I'm really interested in learning new things, but particularly about growing food sustainably. I'm also keen to help out with NGOs and community groups, including environmental groups.

Beschreibung

I'm about to embark on a backpacking trip, hoping to learn some new skills around growing food, also spend time with animals and, of course, interesting people!

I'm an environmental scientist, specialising in environmental assessment, policy and management. Right now, I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol, but after nearly 6 years in the UK, I feel that I cannot face another English winter, so it's time to move on. I'm planning to make my way back to Australia the slow way. The last time I took off on an extended backpacking trip was in 1989, and so much has changed, particularly with the internet as a platform for finding out information and communicating. I'm not a very good 'tourist'. I probably spend as much time in shopping centres, markets and parks as in museums - all these things fascinate me.

Workaway seems like a great solution for someone like me, who enjoys meeting people, learning new skills and being able to help out, while also seeing a different side to a particular country or region.

I've just found out that the latin root word for adventure is 'adventura' which means "(a thing) about to happen". I love this - travelling opens up so many possibilities, so I can't wait to see what happens.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I've spent much of my life at desk job (environmental policy and management), and most recently, as a university lecturer but I have always done volunteering as well, whether it's activism, community support or mentoring and coaching young professionals. I'm also really keen to find out more about things like growing food as I feel like this is an important way for me to connect to the earth better, and also necessary for adaptation to the climate emergency.
I'm flexible, smart and resourceful, and also fit and healthy, which should make up for lack of practical skills!
