Beschreibung

We are two local part-time teachers—middle aged folks—who live in Northern California, USA—where the redwoods meet the sea. Pete has retired from teaching music for 30 years at an elementary school. Cyndy teaches English part-time at a college and has a small independent press. She also writes fiction and is an artist. We both have our 120 hour TEFL certification and Cyndy has experience teaching ESL in Nepal and the United States.

In the past, Pete worked as a patroller on a nature preserve and Cyndy worked as a marine life educator while working with marine mammals both in captivity and the wild. She also trained domestic animals professionally for over a decade and has held jobs in property management, professional cleaning, and many areas of hospitality.

We like to spend time outdoors—walking, cycling, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, etc. —just as much as we love cozying up to a good book, creating artwork, singing around the fire, dancing or doing yoga. We enjoy sharing community and being of service in the world.

Over the years, we've made great friends while completing work exchanges in Mexico, Orkney, Ireland, Norway, the Faroe Islands, and Indonesia. We helped sea turtle conservation, managed a B&B, walked dogs, restored old homes, cooked food, painted walls, built an underwater version of Atlantis (in a fish tank!) and volunteered with coastal cleanups.

We had an incredible experience at each place and still keep in touch with our hosts....now we are heading South to Mexico and beyond.

We've helped with renovations on a mansion in Ireland, compost bin construction in Orkney, and Cobb building in Oregon (though we are not experts in these areas, by ANY means). We are both “jack of all trades” kind of folks and we take instructions well, love creative projects and enjoy learning new things.

We are both honest, responsible, respectful folks, who are hard workers and who are able to communicate well and follow directions. We're also highly creative and love it most when we are given a task to do that allows some freedom in the approach. We don’t smoke but we do occasionally drink wine/beer. We have a slew of professional and personal references we’ve accrued over the years, including other Workaway and Helpx hosts available for you upon request.
