We are two local part-time teachers—middle aged folks—who live in Northern California, USA—where the redwoods meet the sea. Pete has just retired from teaching music for 30 years at an elementary school. Cyndy teaches English part-time at a university and has just started a small independent press that pairs authors and illustrators from locations where they may not have other chances to be heard or seen. She also writes fiction and is an artist. We both have our 120 hour TEFL certification and Cyndy has experience teaching ESL in Nepal and America.

We like to spend time outdoors—walking, cycling, hiking, kayaking, etc. —just as much as we love cozying up to a good book, creating artwork, singing around the fire, or doing yoga. We love to spend time with others and to be of service in the world. Cyndy is as crazy about spending time with animals as Pete is about spending time working with kids.

Last summer, we spent three months doing work exchanges in Orkney, Ireland, Norway, and the Faroe Islands. We managed a B&B, walked dogs, restored buildings, cooked food, painted, and built an underwater version of Atlantis (in a fish tank). We had an incredible experience at each place and still keep in touch with our hosts....now we are heading to Ecuador for two months (one month on the mainland and one month in the Galapagos). Afterwards Cyndy is heading on-solo- to Orkney.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Combined, Pete and I have experience in the following:
Gardening; structural/property maintenance; hospitality; bartending; waitressing/hosting/retail; animal care, husbandry and training (Cyndy has 12 years professional animal husbandry and training experience); child care (Pete has ~30 years experience as an elementary school teacher); elder care (Cyndy was a live-in helper for an elderly woman for nearly 9 years); healthy food production/cooking; yoga instruction; Reiki; Gerson Therapy; English and basic French language instruction; music instruction/entertaining; art (Cyndy's artwork has appeared in numerous gallery shows throughout the country); graphic/basic web design; basic video production; marketing; writing instruction; editing; basic housework; errands; and vehicle shuttles. We've helped to lead Dances of Universal Peace.....We've recently helped with renovations on a mansion in Ireland, compost bin construction in Orkney, and Cobb building in Oregon (though we are not experts in these areas, by ANY means). We are both “jack of all trades” kind of folks….

We are both honest, responsible, respectful folks, who are hard workers and who are able to communicate well and follow directions. We're also highly creative and love it most when we are given a task to do that allows some freedom in the approach. We don’t smoke or do drugs, but we do occasionally drink wine/beer.
