Hi there! We’re Brian and Christie, a Dutch couple excited to combine travel, connection, and hands-on work through Workaway. We’re both curious, down-to-earth, and full of energy to learn, help, and create together. What drives us most is meeting new people, learning from different cultures, and finding joy in the small, simple things.

One of our favorite examples of how we work as a team was when we renovated our entire house in just 48 hours with help from our family, painting all the walls, doors, frames, and baseboards, while moving in at the same time! We made a plan, kept everyone well-fed with self-cooked meals, motivated, and together we got it done. That’s very much our style: plan well, take action, and enjoy the process (and the people) along the way.

We both have backgrounds in psychology and project management, and we share a love for being outdoors, learning new things, and connecting with others. Through Workaway, we hope to immerse ourselves in different cultures, learn more Spanish, and contribute to projects, while having fun and appreciating the small, simple moments of life.

About Christie:

Hi! I’m Christie, and friends would describe me as an energetic and positive person who loves connecting with others and contributing to meaningful projects. I studied Psychology and Organizational Psychology, and I’ve worked in areas like training, coaching, teaching, and projectmanagement.

I enjoy being active, creative, and outdoors, whether it’s skiing, running, hiking, surfing, diving, or creating things like stories, audio, or small art-expositions. I’m also experienced in hosting and organizing events, and I love bringing people together around shared goals or new experiences.
I’d describe myself as bubbly, open, and flexible. I love to take initiative but also enjoy following a good plan and supporting others’ ideas. In a team, I like creating structure, motivating people, and keeping things positive and fun. I’m curious about new perspectives, and I enjoy deep, connecting conversations, especially around a cosy camp fire ;) as much as active teamwork.

About Brian:
Hi! I’m Brian, a hands-on, curious, and people-minded person who loves to learn and create. My background is in International Business and Psychology, and I’ve worked on various projects around the world, that combine practical work with people and teamwork.

I enjoy building, repairing, and cooking, and I’m happiest when I can help improve or create something together with others. I’ve got experience in in small construction work (from building Timber Eco Lodges in Uganda, to construction work in Holland) hospitality, and projectmanagement and giving trainings. I’m also quite sporty and love anything that keeps me active, from surfing, wakeboarding, and snowboarding to hiking or diving.

Friends would describe me as open-minded, adventurous, and action-oriented. I like to take initiative, think in solutions, and bring humor and energy to a team. I value honesty and enjoy working with people who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and work hard together toward a goal.

Through Workaway, we hope to immerse ourselves in local traditions, languages, and daily life. We’re eager to improve our Spanish, contribute to meaningful projects, and live more back-to-basic, close to nature and people. Whether it’s helping in hospitality, construction, eco projects, or community life, we’re ready to help where we can and learn along the way.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Brian's Skills:

I love working with my hands and seeing real results. I can build, repair, and renovate, from painting walls and fixing doors to small outdoor projects. I’m used to organizing work efficiently, making a plan, and then getting things done with energy and focus. I’ve also worked in hospitality, so I enjoy helping out in kitchens, cooking for groups, or creating a welcoming atmosphere. Whether it’s building a shed, setting up a surfboard rack, or preparing dinner for everyone, I like to make things work and look good.

Christie's Skills:

I have experience in teaching, coaching, and hosting, and I love creating a positive and structured environment where things flow smoothly. I’m also hands-on, I enjoy painting, decorating, and helping with small DIY or garden tasks. With a background in psychology and event organization, I’m good at seeing what people or projects need and keeping motivation high. Whether it’s planning a day of work, teaching a skill, or turning a space into something warm and inviting, I like to make things come to life.
