Beschreibung

My name is Ariel, and I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa!

I work in the film industry as a wardrobe assistant, after studying fashion design, which is one of my biggest passions. I love art in general, and spend a lot of my spare time drawing or painting (when I'm not starting a new sewing project), and of course listening to music! Growing up in the foothills of Table Mountain, I also have a deep appreciation for nature, hiking, gardening, and picnicking with friends. I also love yoga, though I'm still a beginner! Some of my other favourite ways to spend a weekend are having board game or movie nights with my friends, exploring new restaurants, or trying new recipes - I believe good food is one of life's biggest joys. It's also such an important part of the travelling experience for me, so I'd love any recipes you have to share!

I'm very lucky that the nature of my work gives me the freedom to travel, which I'm making the most of this year. I'll be spending most of August travelling through the Mediterranean with friends, and afterwards I'd love to slow down for a few weeks and experience a place more deeply through Workaway.

Rather than simply hopping through as a tourist, I'm excited by the opportunity to contribute, learn new skills, connect with new people, and experience everyday life in a new environment. I'm especially drawn to the countryside, gardens, and places with a strong sense of character and history!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I studied fashion design and am experienced in sewing, garment construction, and alterations. I can also do basic crochet and embroidery. I can paint (both decoratively and in terms of repainting walls/windows/etc) and do basic mosaic. I love gardening, and am not afraid to get my hands dirty! My DIY skills are basic, but I'm eager to learn, and happy to help with maintenance, restoration, and other hands-on projects! I also tutor in my spare time, so I can help with English lessons or practice.

Through my work in the film industry, I'm used to working as part of a team, adapting to new situations, and helping wherever needed. I'm also capable of working independently on projects, and am used to doing physical work (running around with heavy costumes, moving boxes, etc). I can cook and bake, and would love to learn new recipes and fully explore local ingredients! I'm also happy to help with cleaning, housekeeping, and keeping shared spaces tidy.

I'm an animal lover and have plenty of experience pet sitting both cats and dogs.

In terms of computers, I'm comfortable using Photoshop and Premiere Pro, and I can also work my way around spreadsheets and other organisational tasks.

Was noch ...

At home, I mostly eat vegetarian. I'm much more flexible about my diet when travelling so that I can fully experience local cuisine, and share meals with the people around me. The dishes I usually cook are meatless, but I'm happy to adapt dishes if preferred!

I'm a tidy, respectful person and have lived with housemates for many years, so I'm used to sharing spaces and being considerate of the people around me. I'm equally happy spending an evening chatting over dinner, playing cards, or relaxing with a book after a day of work.

Most of all, I'm looking forward to meeting new people, learning new skills, and experiencing a different way of life for a while. I believe some of the best travel experiences come from the connections you make with people along the way!
