I'm a sportive, adventurous person, who wants to gain new experiences while being useful to others. I'm open-minded, social and modest, a responsible, flexible and loyal worker, always willing to learn and adapt to what is asked of me. My hobbies involve cycling (racing bike), hiking and exploring other countries and cultures, meeting people, which is why I’ve travelled extensively all over the world for the last 40 years, mostly with my wife. I’ve also worked abroad for longer periods up to two years, including development work and teaching.
So far, I've worked with Workaway in a variety of positions and locations, ranging from greasing horse-saddles at a lodge in South Africa via putting up a fence at a farm in Norway to teaching English to young adults at a remote school in rural Uganda. I'm young at heart and very fit for my age (68), and eager to meet and work with both my peers and young people.

I always want to learn new languages, which I also did in Tajiskistan, when I worked there for VSO in 2008, and I love to teach too, especially English.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Currently working as a social worker in mental health, but previously as an English teacher (and many other jobs), I can say that I have a variety of skills, such as social and communicative, but also practical. Apart from my native language Dutch I can also speak German, French and Spanish at a reasonable level, which I would love to teach to others. I'm also very handy, I can fix things, paint a house, put up a fence and repair a bycicle.

Was noch ...
I used to be a keen hiker, who walked uncountable kilometres all over the world, bit since my left hip joint started to wear away I have had to limit my physical exertion on foot. But I can still do short walks and practise my greatest hobby, which is riding my racing bike. I'm very interested in other people(s) and cultures and I love to share my thoughts and experiences with them.
