Beschreibung
Hi gardening and nature fans, join us to support sustainable agricultural in the Casamance Region of Senegal. We are a Senegalese-German family who love nature and agriculture. Our objective is to follow the path of agroecology and try to grow fruits and vegetables biologically without using pesticides. On an aera of almost 2ha, which is watered by solar power, you will find orange, mandarine, lemon, corossol, papaya and banana trees. We also grow seasonal vegetables following the idea of agroforestry. We would also would love to create a test area for permaculture.

The Casamance has a rich culture! Our farm is situated in a zone where a lot of foreign people live. Local people are very hospitable and happy to share their culture with you. You have different cultural feasts. Abene, a village nearby, is famous for the music festival which takes place around new year.

Arbeit
We are especially searching for volonteers who are experienced in good agricultural practices (GAP), permaculture in a tropic environment, composting, knowledge about biological pest control. However, we are also happy if you help us with the following:
Watering, harvesting, preparing seedlings and fields, and planting. During the cashew season (Apr-Jun) a main task would be collecting the cashew apples and separating the nuts. We have raise chicken and goats which also need care.
On our farm, there is always work and something to do. Our volunteers should be proactive, creative, communicative, flexible and capable to work under hot climate conditions.Gesprochene Sprachen

We built an annexe where we usually host volonteers, visitors and family members. The building is electrified (solar power) and has a shared bathroom with running water.
We actually have one room which you might share with another volonteer. We are only able to host more than 2 volonteers if volonteers are willing to stay in a tent. We have one but you can bring your own tent if you prefer.
We recommend you to bring a solar lamp/power bank or torche.
The main dish in Senegal consists of rice and fish. We cannot provide special meals or special diet (e.g. for vegetarians or vegans). If you need special food, you will have to take care of it yourself. We ask for a meal contribution of maximum 3,000FCFA (4.50EUR) per day, depending on the number of meals. Was noch ...
Our farm is situated about 1.5km far from the paved main road (or about 20minutes walk) which connects to the two neighbouring villages Kafountine and Abene. You can reach the farm from DAKAR by bus and by taxi brousse, so called 7places to Ziguinchor, Kafountine or Abene. The 7places from Ziguinchor to Kafountine costs 2500FCFA per person, luggage extra. There is also a ferry going twice a week from Dakar to Ziguinchor and back. There is no possibility to book tickets online and only at the harbour with your passport. You can find further information on the website of the harbour in Dakar ()
People coming from THE GAMBIA have to take public transport or a taxi. If you want us to pick you up, you have to pay for the fuel.
Transport at the farm: If our Jakarta runs errands for you, you cover the fuel costs. We have no bikes to rent or borrow.
What else: Please be aware that you are staying in a country with Islamic culture and tradition. Dress properly ;-)
Leisure:
The farm is not far from the beach. We are organising social activities with our volonteers like going to the beach, having food there and playing music together.
The Gambia is not far away and we have relatives there - so, you also could enjoy a short trip to this English speaking country!Etwas mehr Information
