We live on the Baltic Sea cost. 4 hours by car from Berlin.

We can host only in March and this is going to be our last hosting position. We are closing down our school and going to be Workawayrs ourselves from September 2025.

Hello,
We would like to host native speakers of English. We run a small language school (really small, we call it nano school).
I am looking for helpers who can take over my English classes while they are at my place so my students can talk to a native speaker. I do not expect you to teach grammar unless you really want to try your luck.
This year's timetable usually starts with lunch at my place at about 2:30 pm and then you will have to teach 3-4 hours till the evening meal so there will be plenty of time for you to enjoy the city and the area in the mornings.
Your English conversation classes will consist of two or three students. There will be no need to change the location. The students come to your place which is on the same floor as my flat so you will be staying at a totally independent studio with a toilet, shower and kitchenette. I will provide the teaching aids.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to drop me a line.

To sum up, a traveller is asked to help up to 20 hours a week (Monday-Friday).
I ask the travellers to teach English (I provide the materials) and with some classes I ask to provide conversation classes without any books (hadnouts with topics to be discussed can be provided for every class).
I teach English and my wife teaches Spanish.
The minimum period to stay with us is 3 weeks. We can only host people who are at least 24 years old.

There is also a broadband WiFi to connect to the Internet. The WiFi is free and unlimited.
I also provide a full board. If we are away at the weekend, you will be provided with food to cook on your own. So while you are here you will not have to spend any money. You will be taken a good care of in terms of lodging, food, social life and extra activities. If you want to spend time with us during the weekend you are more than welcome to join me in my weekend activities.
I do not smoke and we do not have any pets at home.

Unterkunft
I offer an independent studio next to my flat. This is the studio where my students have English classes. There is a broadband WiFi to connect to the Internet.
The WiFi is free and unlimited.

We provide full board to volunteers teachers so you will not have to spend a penny while staying with us.
Volunteer teachers will be taken a good care of in terms of lodging, food, social life and extra activities.
If you want to spend time with me during the weekend you are more than welcome to join us in our weekend activities (if we go to the concert I will expect you to pay for your ticket).
We do not smoke and we do not have any pets at home.

Six months ago Maciej contacted me about hosting, teaching his kids English and also a couple hours in his home language studio.

I arrived on Sunday September 30th and we went over the schedule for the week. I noticed that the schedule was mostly afternoon classes even though his profile (which has changed since my visit) stated that “Our son is… read more home schooled so you will have to spend 2 hours with him in the morning teaching him English and then you will be asked to give our students English conversation classes for two more hours in our private language studio in the afternoon.”

My first class was scheduled to begin at 2pm however, on Sunday night he texted to say he added one more class for my first day and asked me to start an hour earlier. I did not have a problem with this. (Another class, was also added to the schedule later in the week, leaving me with a scheduled lunch break of 20 minutes, which became only 12 minutes in reality because lunch was late.)

For the rest of the week, the start times ranged from 11:15am to 1:30pm, with the bulk of my time spent teaching in the private school. Over the course of 5 days, I taught 22 classes/lessons including teaching his children and I did receive positive feedback from Maciej verbally and at least once by text stating that "I saw Marianna's (his daughter's) piece of writing. Good job. Well done. This is the direction which you should follow".

It should be noted that if the schedule is from 1:00 to 7pm it will be counted as 5 hours (lunch and the breaks between class change overs are not counted as working hours). You will be taking over the schedule for Maciej's private school clients plus an hour or so with his son or daughter (his kids are wonderful, so no problems there), but you will spend the majority of you time teaching in the private school. Since the interacting is mostly with the students, this is more like working for a business than doing a family homestay.

The profile states that meals are provided Mon - Fri. I was told lunch would be at 2pm and dinner at 7pm (the times did change depending on the days activities). For lunch (lunch is typically 30 minutes) you get a hot meal but dinner is only a salad. On my first day, they asked if I liked salads, I said yes, but I didn't realize that it would only be a salad for dinner everyday, Monday through Friday. As a result I ended up purchasing 4 dinners out of the 5 days. To be fair, when I told Maciej he did state that even though they only have salad for dinner, I could have asked for more food. Since you eat breakfast on your own, he does give the equivalent of $8 USD per week for breakfast (he gave me a total of $16 and when I tried to return it before leaving, he told me to keep it).

One of the days, I purchased dinner because after finishing class at 7:30, the salad wasn't ready so I decided I would order a meal when I returned to the apartment since it was dark outside and the volunteer apartment is about a 10 minutes bike ride away from their home. Additionally, on this particular night, due to dark and slippery conditions on the road I did not see an object in the road and I fell off the bike and injured my shoulder. This was one of the factors in my decision to leave early; I didn't want to ride a bike in the dark after a late class. The other major factor was internet.

Since I was first contacted 6 months ago some things have changed for me, I began taking online classes and conducting meetings/trainings requiring the internet. I had issues with the internet but I let them known about it every time it happened. The internet offered on his pervious profile was “The WiFi is free and unlimited but must be logged in every 30 minutes with a CAPTCHA code. If you want to skip CAPTCHA code then you must pay 8 Euros per 30GB for a 30-day period”. (The profile has since been updated to state “slow” as well). The interest does have a limit of about 5GB and after 30 minutes it times out/disconnects and you have to wait for some time until you are given a new CAPTCHA code to enter, so the actual downtime is longer and you could actually be offline for awhile before being able to access the new CAPTCHA code to get back online. I discussed this with Maciej and he stated that the internet is free but the requirement of the CAPTCHA code is meant to discourage use. I shared the reasons why this would be a problem and he let me know that the majority of his Workawyers are older, retired or families and don’t use internet as much, but that I could purchase additional internet. Since the internet was actually free and unlimited I declined to spend the money to purchase it.

Given the changes through the week with the schedule, working more with the business instead half the time with the kids (as stated in the original profile), the salad only for dinner and the slow and sometimes inaccessible internet, I decided to leave early.

We were able to share time and talk with other family members too and we felt right at home. Two Chileans felt at home in Poland!! We will always carry all of them them in our hearts.

They allowed us to have independence and at the same time, to feel welcomed and cared for (Paz got a strong cold and everyone was very kind and understanding. They took her to the doctor and they acted like a family to us). The apartment they had for us is very large, absolutely comfortable and well located, Kolobrzeg is lovely and you can walk on foot to every place of interest.

We taught Spanish and English classes to kids from about 10 years old to teenagers to adults who were learning spanish for the first time or practicing their skills. We also played card games with Janek including Magic cards, and did lettering with Marianna. The children are very talented and charming and they have this beautiful energy.

We ate deliciously, we drank and shared unforgettable moments. This experience opened our heads and hearts to a lot of new and spectacular things. We hope to see you again!!

Estuvimos con Maciej, Ewa, Janek y Marianna por el transcurso de 1 mes y medio y fue una experiencia increíble. Son excelentes personas y profesionales. Ewa es una super mujer y súper mamá y Maciej es un loco lindo que da todo por su familia. Gracias a sus gestiones tuvimos la tremenda posibilidad de hacer clases en la escuela pública de Kolobrzeg, además de hacer muchas otras actividades muy divertidas. Pudimos compartir con otros miembros de su familia también y nos sentimos como en casa. Dos chilenos se sintieron como en casa en Polonia!! Los llevaremos siempre en nuestro corazón.

Nos permitieron tener independencia y a la vez, sentirnos acogidos y cuidados (Paz se resfrió fuertemente y todos fueron muy amables y comprensivos, la llevaron al médico y actuaron como una familia con nosotros). El departamento es muy grande y absolutamente cómodo y bien ubicado, Kolobrzeg es encantador y puedes moverte a pie a todos los lugares de interés.

Hicimos clases de español e inglés para chicos y chicas desde 10 años hasta adolescentes e incluso adultos que empezaban a aprender español o que practicaban sus habilidad. Además jugamos juegos de cartas e incluso cartas Magic con Janek, e hicimos lettering con Marianna. Los niños son talentosísimos y encantadores, tienen una energía preciosa.

Comimos delicioso, bebimos y compartimos momentos inolvidables. Esta experiencia abrió nuestras cabezas y corazones a un montón de cosas nuevas y espectaculares. Esperamos volver a vernos nuevamente.
