  Hello to all the travellers out there!
  
  My name is Tilly, I’m 28 years old and I live in Altenburg, a small historic town in eastern Germany, pretty much in the heart of the country. Altenburg is known for the game of Skat, as well as mustard and beer. But above all, it is a town full of history, with a beautiful castle overlooking it, lots of nature around like lakes or forests and good connections to bigger cities (f.e. Leipzig).
  
  I have spent a big part of the last ten years travelling. A part of my heart definitely belongs to that. But now I have also realised how connected I am to my home.
  
  And my home happens to be a rather unusual place! 🏠
  
  I grew up in a historic four-sided courtyard right in Altenburg - a place where culture, history, gastronomy and people have come together for many years. Part of the courtyard is home to a medieval-themed restaurant, while other parts tell stories about the former GDR, sometimes with a satirical perspective on that period. There are also different spaces stories and probably just as many corners where something still needs to be done.
  
  Over the years the care and maintenance of this large place has slowly fallen into the background. At some point I found myself thinking: I would really like to bring more life back into this place. Not as one perfectly planned project that needs to be finished overnight, but step by step. 🏚️
  
  There are areas to clear out, maintain and redesign, and plenty of space for trying new ideas. At the same time, I would like to develop the more private and homely side of the courtyard as well. There is a greenhouse, space for a future chicken coop, and several areas where I would love to gradually create something new. I want this place to be more than a cultural space for visitors - I want it to be a living, evolving home as well. 🐓 🌱 🪏
  
  And this is where Workaway comes in. 🌐
  
  Through my own travels and Workaway experiences, I realised that travelling means much more to me now than nature. Some of the most valuable experiences happen when you actually become part of a place for a while - meeting people, working together, sharing meals, stories and perspectives.
  
  This is exactly the feeling I would now love to bring home to Altenburg.

  For me, this is not about simply working through a list of tasks. It is more about: creating something together and learning from another.
  
  You will live at a historical yard, you can learn some German and if you want I can take you at the weekends to day trips with me or my friends (hiking, cities), show you around and if its avaiable you can join the medieval-programm or GDR one for free (with typical food and so on) and good german food. Otherwise the connection from Altenburg is really good to other parts of Germany, because it‘s almost central. So you can discover a lot by yourself and I can give recommendations.
  
  I would like to give travellers the opportunity to discover this place and its history, show them my hometown and work together on small and bigger tasks around the courtyard. At the same time, I am excited to keep discovering the world myself - by letting a little bit of the world come to me (or my family and friends, who are around as well). So ,,Willkommen!‘‘

  I’m welcoming people who enjoy getting involved, sharing ideas and simply having a good time together. Depending on what is happening at the time, projects might include :
  
  -cutting wood
  -gardening and food DIY (making own juice)
  -helping me to learn baking
  -clearing
  
  You can always say, what is your skill or what you would prefer, that you feel comfortable! ☺️
  
  And: Although my house is located on the same property as a hotel, you will not be involved in the tasks there or asked to provide any business-related help. Instead, we will spend time together.

  Unterkunft

  You will have your own room with a bed, Wi-Fi and bathroom. The kitchen and laundryroom is shared. Bikes are avaiable.
  
  My motto is: Food brings people together! We will share at least one meal a day. Apart from that, you are welcome to use my kitchen and the food available there for yourself. Of course, I offer accommodate any dietary preferences or special eating habits. Just let me know!
  
  I’d be happy to prepare some typical German dishes for you, and I’d also love to learn more about the food and traditions from your culture. So, if you enjoy cooking, we can definitely prepare meals together and exchange recipes and ideas.

  Was noch ...

  You can do a lot. We are 7 minutes away from the train station by walking, so you can arrive easily or if you want, you can do trips to bigger cities (Leipzig = 30 minutes). Otherwise you can visit the castle, few museums (nature, historic or art) or spend time in the parks by bike. In the center we have the best hazelnut ice cream and nearby beautiful forests and lakes!
