My name is Rebecca, I am a Taiwanese-New Zealander back in Taiwan, renovating my old house at Yingge, New Taipei with my son and our dog. It is a beautiful artistic villa that has seen better days, and it is my dream to restore it to its former glory.

On your days off, you can sightsee many fantastic attractions around Taipei and northern Taiwan, and visit my beautiful town, Yingge, famous for ceramics and traditional Chinese/Taiwanese art. We are 45 minutes away from Taipei City by train.
Arbeit
We are seeking help with gardening, trimming trees, painting, waterproofing, DIY projects, kitchen task, and tidying. Volunteers with relevant experiences and handy skills are preferred. The work can sometimes be challenging, but if you're not afraid to get your hands dirty, it is rewarding and you can learn a lot of new skills!

Overall, it was a great experience!
People are very nice and easygoing.
Working outside might not be easy sometimes because of the heat.
But if you like any construction or renovation jobs, this is your place.

Vom Workawayer (Jan) für Host

I had a very good stay with Rebecca and Neif! Their self-built, and beautifully decorated home had been hit by a typhoon several years ago. Now they are pushing up the sleeves and try to give it a little renaissance. With the help of former workawayers, they already got a great deal done, so that I could stay in the old villa, where I had an own… read more room plus bathroom. The villa is situated in the outskirts of Yingge, between Yingge center and Taoyuan city. You can get to Yingge by taking a free bus (runs every 30 mins) or by taking a UBike. There is also a bus going to Taoyuan.
Close by you can find a convenience store as well as a breakfast shop. Some 20 mins walk away there are also some other shops. Central Yingge is a nice little New Taipei town, where you can stroll around the Old Street and shop for tea utensils and pottery. The Pottery Museum is highly recommended!
Our working days would start at 8.30 am when we would have breakfast together, than change our clothes and get to work. During my stay, that meant restoring the old kiln. So we pushed and pulled away old shelving and machinery and shoveled it clean of lots of clay and mud. Thereby we often would find stunning pottery, that we collected and polished. At around 12 we had lunch, afterwards a little break, and than we would get to work again. We finished between 4.30 and 5.30pm, which means that working times were much longer than the average workaway. You should keep that in mind when applying here. But in return, we were served three delicious self-cooked meals every working day, something that is also beyond the average. Furthermore, their renovation project is hard work but interesting, and it feels great to help bring some pieces of art back to shine again. So, although at the beginning I sometimes felt a bit frustrated about the work, I soon began to enjoy it (even the shoveling clay. The last days one could not stop me). That was also due to a very good and open conversation I had with Rebecca that helped mutual understanding and made me confident in the workaway again.
During the work hours, we, the workawayers, were working together with Neif, who is a great guy with whom working is fun. Rebecca also would join us every minute that her profession as a traditional doctor would allow her to take off. She knows a lot about traditions and arts, and she loves to share her knowledge.

Rebecca, Neif, I want to thank you for the great time! Can't wait to see your place restored and shining in old glory again one day.
