We are a New Zealand/Irish family with a passion for the outdoors and a desire to live as close to nature as possible. Andy is a builder and Fire and Emergency volunteer while Deborah runs a stargazing tour company, is the island's Dark Sky co-ordinator, manages accommodation, and supports the local school. We have one child who goes to our local school, plays chess, Minecraft and Magic the Gathering and is a keen freediver. Our dog, Toa is a friendly, energetic Vizla, GSP, Bearded Collie mix. In our spare time we fish, dive, surf, garden and socialise with our island friends.

We welcome you to be part of our family, learn from us, be part of our off-the-grid lifestyle and contribute your energy, skills and passions to our fun and busy days. You may be interested in learning how to make your own yogurt, muesli and sourdough bread too.

If you are the type of person who says "I've finished that job, what's next?" or "how can I help?" then we would love you to contact us! Currently we need help with weeding, lawns / weedeating, firewood and cleaning. You will need to be responsible and able to help independently.

    Unterkunft

You will have your own room with a comfortable king sized bed in our house.

Your dinner is included, and ingredients for you to make your own breakfasts and lunches. Most nights Deb will cook everyone’s dinner, but your help is always greatly appreciated. Many of these dinners will include freshly caught fish, locally sourced meat and vegetables from the garden. If you love to cook please say. The cook always enjoys a break! There is often some of Deb's homemade muesli and yogurt, home baked sourdough bread or the kiwi favourite of weetbix around for breakfast or lunch, but if you like a more substantial meal we recommend you bring some supplies (or purchase them on the island) as these are meals that Andy and Deb don't regularly eat.

There are a couple of small shops on the island (several kilometres away from the house) which can provide most of those bits and bobs that you may need. But for anything that you can't do without, we suggest you bring it with you from the mainland.

With your time off you can visit the beautiful nearby beaches, enjoy the many stunning hikes all over Great Barrier Island, try your hand at surfing or catch a fish or two.
We have some boogie boards and a beginner surf board that you are welcome to use. We live only 1km from a stunning, white sand surf beach.
There is no public transportation on the island. Hitchhiking is common and safe on our friendly island. Or there is a shuttle that can be booked to help you get to/from the ferry or a hike.
We are a family and are often in bed early and up early. We don't expect you to do the same, but we're not a party place.
