This was my first workaway stay, and like other reviews I am also so happy and lucky to have had this experience here.
My experience here was probably not the typical one, as by some scheduling incident we were two workawayers at once, and usually it would only be one. Improvised solutions and adaptations are big part of (this) family's life,
… read more though, and together Claudia (who has also left review below and already knew the family very well) and I could make some real headway at some of the garden projects as well as helping out with general household tasks. Due to this special circumstance, I also had more contact with Claudia than with Irene and Yeray, especially when I first arrived and they were coming out of a very busy and stressful time. So the cultural exchange aspect was not as big as maybe I had anticipated, but had I stayed longer for sure there would have been more opportunities, as they increased so much already in my third but last week (this was also due to me needing my free weekend off and not taking some opportunities to connect further, which once more in synch with the flow of the family I probably also would have done more of...) Definitely everyone was always very nice and open to find a way that works for all, I really appreciate having been able to live with them and learn about their lifestyle and witness their dedication to the family and space they create <3Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

I was mainly in charge of household chores like cleaning, doing the dishes/ laundry and gardening, but at times I also looked after the children. What can I say???? Claudia is one of the best workawayers ever. She is very respectfull, enthusiastic, observer and pro-active. Most of the time she has done a lot of work before we even ask for...
She is passionated and motivated. The same time she is very respectful with the house routines and mood. She respected our privacy and at the same time

She help us cleaning, cooking and keeping the house tidy and clean, and at the same time she is super good in gardering, hard work, machines... She is very strong and active woman. She is funny and friendly.
Staying at Irene’s and Yeray’s house can only be described as a warm bath that soothes both body and soul. During my time on Tenerife, I kept coming back to it and ended up staying on and off for two months in total. It became a little home away from home.
They communicate very respectfully and consciously what you can help them with. Like being

They also guard your hours as a workawayer in a lovely way, for example telling me “It’s your day off, you don’t have to do anything” when I started to unload the dishwasher on a Saturday. :) Another thing that I absolutely loved about them as hosts is that for me it was the first workaway-place that truely offered a cultural exchange. As they are a local family, I had the opportunity to meet so many interesting people, learn about the island and it’s history, it’s local cuisine, the challenges the islands face and practice my Spanish.
Your room with your own bathroom a little separated from the main house is lovely as it gives you a little privacy and everything you need. The garden is filled with fruit trees, the fridge is stacked with the most tasty, organic food. And of course, last but not least, the kids will bring a smile on your face with such regularity, you will miss it as soon as you leave.
I could not have asked for a better place to start my year.Feedback

I’m very glad for the experience I had at the wonderful place of Irene and her family. It’s a little paradise! I only stayed for a week with her lovely family (I was lucky that they had a week in between workawayers when they needed help so I had the chance to get to know them). I was staying in Irene’s office, which felt like a perfect little
… read more private house to stay in, even though Irene uses it in the daytime. Their garden is truly magical - orange, lemon, avocado trees and lovely green surroundings. La Laguna is close by so if you feel like spending time in the city, it’s the perfect option. I often hiked in the close-by forest, which I really loved.
The time I spent there was a little special, as most of the family was sick so I stayed with their lovely daugther (turning 4 soon, big girl!) at home. She is a ray of sunshine. I feel lucky to have got to know her. We spent the day drawing, reading, playing and keeping the house clean. In normal circumstances the work focuses a little more on house work and on spending time with the kids. Their son is an energy bomb - I wish I could have spent more time with him!
I truly wish all the best for this family, they deserve the best. There’s so much you can learn from them! Their communication in general but also concerning the tasks is always clear and kind.

Ami was a great workawayer. She was really kind. Although she only stayed with us for two weeks, we missed her yet. She was very helper. This kind of person that listen the energy and its always taking care. She respected very much the environment. She helped us with the kids and organising the house. It was a good experience. I stayed in a room next to the house where Irene usually works during the day which was really convenient and I even had my own garden bathroom.
It was really nice to explore the area around La Esperanza and easy to take the bus to La Laguna for further adventure around the island.
Probably the best thing with them was the communication while I was there. I really enjoyed their honest and kind way of expressing their needs and thoughts and the way they communicate whinin the family in general.

I spend about 2 month in La Esperanza, which is a great place close to the forest brilliant for exploring and running.
Playing with the kids was one of my favourite jobs really. To see the world through their eyes, watching them grow and learn, playing endless rounds of UNO or football,

Even with very limited Spanish I was able to communicate with the kids. They pick up English words so fast it's incredible! The communication with my host parents was easy and they always kept me up-to-date on upcoming projects.
It really felt like being part of a family. I joined family trips to the beach or the food market and got introduced to their friends.
About the work: It was mainly childcare and general maintenance like organising, laundry, cleaning and some DIY projects like painting, putting up skirting boards, re-furnishing.
Their way of living is very inspiring and I am so glad I was able to be there and learn!
A big bonus: I was able to use their car on my days off which allowed me to explore this beautiful island extensively.

Svane was great workawayer, she helped us with insolating a wood cabin, cutting the cork and putting in a wood cabin. She is very good with tools. she has good manners and motivated.

I’ve had a wonderful experience staying in la Esperanza two weeks there. I came for a week and then I decided to come again for a week to finish the project which was insulting a wooden cabin with cork and spend more time with a lovely family. … read more unsupervised and could decide about which part of the day I do it with was very nice to have that flexibility in that case. If I had any questions I always had great communication with hosts on how to do it.
The place and surroundings are very calm and peaceful. There is amazing Ancient forest nearby with "flying trees" and a bit further (20min) a huge forest/park where you can go for plenty of long hiking where some hidden paths have a tropical feeling into it.
In the garden there are fruit trees with a huge old avocado tree that is producing extremely good avos :D.
They make their place in a way that it is becoming more and more sustainable and eco-friendly.
I was able also to experience a super fresh, healthy and tasty food over there that was making me feeling very well and most important joyful fun time with children ! :)
