On April 25th, a 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal near the capital city of Kathmandu, the worst of its kind in more than 80 years. More than 9,000 people were killed, a further 23,000 were injured and the mass destruction to infrastructure and homes was vast. Aftershocks continued to shake the country in the weeks that followed causing further fear for those who left homeless and vulnerable by the initial earthquake. A second major earthquake occurred at 12:50 pm on Tuesday, May 12th with a moment magnitude of 7.3. At 153 people were killed by this second earthquake and more than 3,200 were injured.
We are a volunteer-powered disaster relief organization who welcome volunteers from all over the world to join us. Our volunteers come from all kinds of skill sets and backgrounds, and no experience is required.
Not only will you be exposed to volunteers and staff from all over the world. We aim to be involved in the communities we work in as well. We work with locals on the work site and engage with them daily
We are currently working out of the Sindhuli district building three school buildings. Our school rebuild project is an overall effort to build new schools and repair partially damaged schools in remote locations across Nepal. No construction experience is required, and we have an experienced team of construction staff and team leaders who will ensure a safe, fun and positive volunteer experience.
This is communal living at its finest. You’ll live together, work together and eat together with your fellow volunteers. Volunteers will primarly camp in tent spaces on base, but we have a limited amount of bunk beds, which are subject to availability. You will also have access to a basic kitchen and rustic bathrooms. There is no participation fee and we also cover the cost of three meals per day, on work days. You will be responsible for travel to and from the project, mandatory mental health breaks (minimum 3 nights away from base per 30 days), food on non-work days and other incidental expenses.
There are local busses available to and from our base that depart from Kathmandu. Our base is about a 4 hour bus ride from Kathmandu. We are located in the mountains where each morning you can wake up with beautiful mountain views before heading off to do a days work.
