Welcome from Trixie and Allan. We've lived here, in this place of many wonders since 2005 and want to share it's magic and healing energy.
We now have 7 mountain bikes (we could use a bicycle mechanic and we have a piano.
Join us, a couple of elderly adventures to stay in this amazing place which is too much for us to manage alone. At the momrnt we need help in the house and some healthy cooking experience would be a bonus and a sense of humour would be great. We have a live-in gardener, odd job man till December. Then we'll be looking for a couole to spend the winter in one of our downstaurs apartments to keep all the wood stoves supplied with logs and kindling (we buy in the logs ready cut)
and share the tasks of the garden: watering, cleaning the pool, some decorating and preserving garden furniture; art projects and mosaics; river bank conservation.
Allan, who has recovered from a long illness, is guite frail now but has a wicked sence of humour when he's not being comugionly.
Our animals, dogs and cats, hens and rabbits, need walking and companionship.
We are just 30 minuts from the blue flag beaches of Oliva (warm volcanic springs) and Gandía.
We want to build a wooden retreat cabin /Tiny House and outdoor Spanish kitchen and shower incorporated into our existing retreat in 'the Buddha Garden' outdoor sleeping area on terraces down to the river Serpis.
We want to make a yoga deck and a yurt on a disused irrigation canal.
We offer adventures breaks for all abilities, climbing, caving,, painting,, cooking. .
We are wheelchair friendly and offer support for the less able.
We are on the Via Verde route in El Raco Del Duc, La Safor Valencia. It is one of the feeder routs of the Camino De Santiago de Compostela. You can get your firsts stamp at the hotel in Villalonga.
We welcome sports climbers (Gandia pitches and Benicadell are very close and we have a local guide who can teach you and transport you), mountain bikers and you can explore a vast complex of caves, with a local guide, containing possible Neolithic paintings and artefacts recently discovered nearby.
Our house is named after 'the Window', the huge hole at the top of Mount La Safor, one and a half hours from Valencia and Alicante airports. We're on the disused railway (from the port of Gandia, and the Ducal home of the Borgia, a vibrant medieval city; markets, theatre, cinema, concerts, great restaurants and bars, shopping centre, train station... half an hour away from us), to Alcoy. It's known as the the 'Via Verde', a 13km walk of unsurpassed, limestone crags to Lorcha, Moorish terraces and orange groves, punctuated by five exciting tunnels hugging the Rio Serpis gorge. We're in the Cirque de La Safor... a huge crater said to be an 'energy portal' like 'Machu Piccu'
We take people to help us in winter or occasionally in the summer season (only if we need house sitters) to house/dog/cat sit and water the garden.
We live downstairs in 'The Hovel', two apartments under the main house. Allan is growing old 'disgracefully' and doesn't join in with us much now but when he does, he loves to hear your adventurous stories. He lives in his ‘Man Cave’ and loves Rugby.
The appartments have a separate entrance, courtyard with trees and terraced organic gardens with fruit trees down to the river... great for wild swimming in summer. You'd be in the main house with other Workawayers, hostelers, couch surfers or paying guests guests though now we are older that's winding down and its quiet. .
Trixie often has her granddaughter Elsa, born May 2017 who comes regularly for adventures and art while mums at work. They live nearby.
Occasionally when it’s quiet, Trixie likes to visit family or take a retreat, leaving Allan, four dogs, four cats, 2 hens, a rabbit, and the wood-burning stoves... to fend for themselves in this beautiful peaceful place. Then she needs someone to stand in for her and support Allan, a kind, non-judgemental mentor in her absence.
We believe in contributionism and We are all responsible equally for the smooth running of this very special place, sharing the work, our love made visible.
You might have to contribute to the food budget and shopping occasionally when there is a lot of us and no paying guests.
Allan is getting less able and it would be great to know we will be supported by a great team of Workawayers, keeping this special place cared for and warm in winter when it can be cold.
We welcome walkers, cyclists and pilgrims.
We don't ever forget you are volunteers and you get to choose what you get involved in here.
We all share the work of the household and cooking (Trixie can teach you about cooking and nutritional therapy) also general housework and garden maintenance and we have great walks in the mountains and swims in the pool and river and there are warm volcanic springs not far away for winter swimming.
In summer our local, Diddley Cafebar, has regular live music on summer Sunday evenings.
There will be conservation work, keeping paths open, on the river bank. There we are preparing a place for groups to meditate.
The house is eco-friendly (16 solar panels). We are working towards zero waste. We have wi-fi and a music hub for you to plug your phone into to share your music. English TV is available (at the request of a wheelchair user).
Our organic terraces and trees could also do with supporters.
You would be sleeping upstairs, in the main house (four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two sitting rooms with wood burning stoves.
    About us:-
Allan had a heart transplant in 1986 and was a teacher. Our Fiesta of the Heart is 26th Feb. It’s our open day. He loved climbing, running, cycling, swimming, sailing, kayaking and theatre. After the transplant, he worked as a volunteer with the less able in all of these and taught sailing for the disabled in Keelder Water at The Kalvert Trust. He's a champion swimmer (in the Transplant Games) but he's now in need of support and companionship.
Trixie ran a vegetarian, organic, Fair Trade, whole-food restaurant and worked with adults with learning and physical disabilities. Kindness and none judgment are at the heart of our place here as is herbalism and nutritional therapy. Trixie spins wool, knits (Fair Isle and Arran) and sews and studies nutritional therapy. She likes a paleo diet and can share these skills and loves cooking, baking and making bread, (vegan and vegetarian food always available here). She loves animals, wild flowers, people, walking, swimming in the river, meditation and yoga and music.
She rescues and cares for stray dogs and cats abandoned in the mountains. At the moment we have four dogs and four cats in our care.
Come and visit to see if you'd like to spend time with us on retreat or join our small community for a longer period to lend a hand with various projects. Your ideas of how you can contribute are always valued.
Bienvenido to our wild river gorge and our home.
