The reindeer station in South Greenland, is a working ranch with mix of ranching and holiday operation, famous for the out of doors activities, sunny days (last summer we had 100 sunny days rivers and lakes full of arctic char and reindeer on the range.
Summertime the station gets full of life with youth from all over the world, Isortoq Is a good place to practice your work skills and make new friends across borders.
The station is 1.600 km2/400.000 Acres in some of Greenland amazing nature:

Travelers will learn where food comes from, like fish and meat, since we are a prime producer, you do things from catching the fish gutting and cleaning it and preparing it for dinner. Same with the meat,. Our food is very healthy and can measure easily with the best cuisines healthy oriented in any western City, even better.
It depends a lot on the season and particular summer, what we are mostly working on.
Some summers we are engaged in maintenance of buildings, and fences. This summer 2019 will be focused on collecting reindeer lichens from the field and stocking up reindeer feed for some of our to be tamed reindeer.
There is always endless work with tidying the place , painting buildings. This summer 2019 there will be some house painting jobs to do. twice a week we do cleaning of houses we take shifts on the cooking . Here you can also learn how to cook if you do not know then you will be assigned to a person who knows how.
Some people learn basic welding.Arbeit
The tasks you would be doing is mainly three types during June/July/August/September:
-Putting up new fences and fixing old ones during May/June.
-Herding reindeer during July/August.
-Late August, early September we tag our reindeer and we have our slaughtering season.
-Other help could include various maintenance tasks like painting and
-Help with the reindeer
We are in the process of remodeling the Station into a more tourism cam operation with reindeer involved as a part of the experience. A lot of work is to be done in reorganizing construction materials stacking them away.
Some help in marketing for the station is necessary for the future,.development of trails and Kayaking experineces.
Most help for the next summers will be tourism development oriented projects. To create a foundation for a good life experience at the station.
One of our simple tasks is to check our nets for example,. and learn how to filet salt and smoke the fish. and conserve it in a freezer. It is also important for the workawayer simply to be there and enjoy life in nature far away from the beaten track.
The above mix of help can change from the above schedule.
AS the station is far away from the airport we will have the following days planned for transport as follows:
-First group June 21 with minimum stay until July 13th.
-Second Group July 13 with minimum stay until July 31st.
-Third Group July 31 with minimum stay to August 17th
-Fourth Group August 17 with minimum stay to August 31st.
-Fifth group August 31 with minimum stay to September 18th.
Those dates are planned around the flights with Air Iceland Connect From Reykjavik to Narsarsuaq Airport. You will also have the option of using Air Greenland from Copenhagen to Narsarsuaq, but you will then have to take care of yourself until we pick you up in Narsaq on the above preset dates.
We do a pickup in the Town of Narsaq the same Day during period of June until July (you will need to schedule transport for Narsarsuaq to Narsaq). After July 31st Picup is on the day after your arrival with Air Iceland Connect from Reykjavik, so you would need to sleep one night in Narsaq. Journey to Reindeer station from the Town of Narsaq is
3 hrs.
We start early around 7:30 with breakfast and the normal working day. There will be days off when you will be travelling to the different areas or go out fishing. We often plan our activities with the weather.
You need to be fit to walk few km a day (during herding) and be able to carry 8 kg fence posts and work with hammer weighing 20 kg (for two persons i.e. 10 kg per person).
You would need to have good walking shoes and good outdoor clothes. Similar as one would use in october weather, even if summers are nice and warm weather can change quickly and also during boat travel it can get cold out on the water. Ideally you would have your own sleeping bag, but if you have none we can supply it.
You must be able to go well in a team be happy, and well balanced mentally,Gesprochene Sprachen

When on the station, we have basic housing with bed, showers etc., but during herding/hunting you would either be staying in a tent or a small hut out in the nature.
We provide basic food like potatoes, rice, spaghetti and bread, and we take in reindeer and fish trout and cod to eat. We take turns cooking and try to be as helpful as possible and we love different styles. Bear in mind that the next store is not around the corner. Was noch ...
