We are a retired couple in our early 60's (Martin & Lori) with a house in one of the most vibrant areas of Vancouver - you would just be a short walk away from some of the city's best restaurants and bars, vintage clothing shops and record and book shops. Lori and I grew up in the city and now that we're retired we'd love to be your guides to all of the cultural riches that this city has to offer.
We are 2 blocks from Main Street (at 28th Avenue) and a 10 minute walk to a Canada Line Subway station which is just 4 stops (less than 10 minutes) from the Vancouver City Centre station (in the heart of the downtown district). We share the house with a very friendly dog named Gallop and a cat named Milhouse (also friendly but she'll take time).
You would stay in a one bedroom basement suite with a private garden entrance.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Travellers staying with us will get a true taste of life in one of Vancouver’s most vibrant and creative neighbourhoods.
We live in area of Vancouver known as Mount Pleasant—2 blocks away from Main Street —surrounded by cafés, local shops, live music, and artsy energy.
As a retired couple who’ve spent decades in the city’s music, theatre, and comedy scenes, we love sharing stories, local history, and creative inspiration. We’re also big fans of the outdoors—there are fantastic parks and beautiful walking trails nearby, and we’re always up for a hike or a stroll with our dogs. Guests can learn about Vancouver’s cultural life, explore nature, and enjoy relaxed, meaningful conversations in a friendly, welcoming home.Arbeit
I need somebody to replace a few of the boards of our cedar deck in the back of the house. and generally strengthen the structure. As well, the job would also include giving it a coat of stain. I could be of a little help in that department. Experience in carpentry is required. It's in pretty good shape apart from a few of the planks and railings which have gotten a little beaten up by the rain. I think all of the railings and lattice work is solid - it's just a few of the planks. The pillars and posts are solid.

Unterkunft
It is a completely private one bedroom basement suite which was built in the past five years so everything is pretty much brand new. The kitchen includes a fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a private bathroom with shower. There's also a small clothes washer and dryer in the suite. It has a private back entrance and goes out onto a semi-private garden.
The photos don't show it but it will be furnished with a bed (the couch in the photo is brand new and pulls out as a bed too).
We would love to get to know our visitors but also give them their privacy as well.
Since there is a full kitchen, we will let you handle your own meals (though I hope we can have a dinner or two together upstairs). There are plenty of great restaurants just a block or two away (and many delicious take out options).
We’re happy to provide three meals a day as part of the exchange. Guests will have their own private suite with a full kitchen, so we’re flexible—sometimes we’d love to share meals together in our part of the house (especially dinners), but we also understand if guests prefer to cook on their own. We’re happy to supply groceries and there’s a fantastic supermarket within walking distance. We can either do the shopping or guests can pick out what they’d like. While we don’t offer a stipend for eating out, we’re always happy to recommend great local spots to try!Was noch ...
There is much to do very nearby our house. Just search "Vancouver Main Street area" or "Vancouver Mount Pleasant" to get some ideas.
You can get downtown by taking the Canada Line Subway (our closest station is just a 10 minute walk away - and from there it's just 4 stops). If you want to stay in the neighborhood, there are countless restaurants and night spots. One of the best vegan restaurants in the country - The Acorn - is 3 blocks away. Walk another 3 blocks and you'll find Published which in 2022 was named the Best Restaurant In Canada (ask us for the link).
There is even great comedy within walking distance such as The Sunday Service Improv group.
If you're into hiking, you're close to a lot of great places. I also have a car and if I'm available I love giving rides.
As for house rules, they are pretty standard.
