Beschreibung
While staying with us you will learn and practice all kinds of homesteading skills. We eat food produced by our own hands, smoke bacon and hams, grow vegetables and fruit, make pasta and bread, mill flour, make soap and body care products and process firewood to heat our home. We are even starting to learn about the medicinal properties of the plants growing on our land. My husband calls the kitchen my science lab. Got some ideas..... let's try it!
Our heritage home sits on over 400 acres of forest, pasture, ponds and creeks within the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve, just half an hour from the 1000 Islands region of the St. Lawrence River. We are no longer a production farm but still have some chickens, gardens and an orchard.
Accommodation: We offer you a large fully furnished private room, incredible food (mostly from our land, including pork and chicken) and great hands-on hamesteading experiences. We have internet and cell service. During your stay you will be treated as one of the family. Alternatively, we can arrange space for your off grid camper or tiny home for those intending to stay a while. We can pick you up from the Megabus or train terminal in Brockville.

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
We love to experiment with making the best food ever: making sausage, pasta, sourdough bread, milling flour, making kefir, crafting soap, smoking meat, trying new recipies are all things we do regularly.

Arbeit
Since we retired from farming there is not a lot of tasks to be done. Help with mowing the lawn, cutting and splitting firewood, making and maintaining trails on the property, helping in the garden or orchard can be done as needed.
During your stay you might be able to help with and attend a workshop, visit local homestead farms, help butcher a chicken for supper, etc

Some fun activities we would love to share with you are visiting other farms, hiking on the many trails on our property, swimming and boating on local lakes, visiting heritage sites. If you want to go further afield, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City are accessible via Megabus.
