This is a private, non-governmental charity dedicated to improving the lives of children, young adults, and their families in Cambodia. We believe that quality education is the key to creating lasting opportunities and breaking the cycle of poverty.

Cambodia's education system continues to face significant challenges as a result of the country's recent history, marked by civil war and decades of economic hardship. As a consequence, many young Cambodians enter the labour market without the education and skills needed to secure stable, well-paid employment.

We believe that strengthening the education system and making quality education accessible to more people not only helps families build sustainable livelihoods but also empowers young people to develop their full personal and professional potential.

For this reason, most of our work focuses on expanding educational opportunities. We operate two English schools, provide dormitories for university students from rural areas, and offer scholarships that enable children and young adults from disadvantaged communities to access education they would otherwise be unable to afford.

Since our founding in 2005, we have remained committed to supporting the rural communities of Prek Tamak and Prek Dambang, located approximately 40 kilometres north of Phnom Penh. We are registered as a charitable organisation in Germany and in England and Wales, as well as an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Cambodia. We are independent of any economic interests, political ideology, or religious affiliation.

Practising conversational English with students in Cambodia will give you a unique opportunity to learn about their lives, families, and cultural traditions. Living with a Cambodian host family will provide you with first-hand experience of Khmer culture, cuisine, and everyday life.

As the school operates from Monday to Friday, you will have your weekends free to explore Cambodia and discover its many cultural and natural attractions. Many of our volunteers choose to spend their weekends in Phnom Penh, where they enjoy the city's vibrant cafés, restaurants, markets, and nightlife.

We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic about teaching English at the school from Monday to Friday in the afternoons and evenings. Weekends are free, giving you the choice to relax at the school, spend time with your host family, or explore Cambodia at your own pace.

You will teach both alongside experienced Cambodian teachers and independently. No previous teaching experience is required—we will provide guidance and support to help you feel confident in the classroom.

If you have a particular skill or area of expertise, we also encourage you to organise a workshop for our university students in Phnom Penh. Whether your background is in business, technology, health, arts, communication, or another field, your knowledge can make a valuable contribution to our university students' personal and professional development.

During your stay, you will live at the school on the grounds of the Cambodian family of our English school's headmaster. This offers a unique opportunity to experience authentic everyday life in rural Cambodia while becoming part of the local community.

Life in the Cambodian countryside is simple and basic, but you will have your own private room with an en-suite bathroom. Our school also provides Wi-Fi, a refrigerator, and a washing machine for volunteers.

The school is located approximately 40 kilometres north of Phnom Penh, about a one-hour drive from the capital. Phnom Penh offers a wide range of restaurants, cafés, bars, cultural attractions, and leisure activities, making it a popular destination for volunteers on weekends.

Lunch and dinner are provided on weekdays. Lunch is usually served around 11:30 a.m., and dinner at approximately 7:30 p.m.

We do not charge volunteers any participation or accommodation fees. Instead, we are grateful for the time, enthusiasm, and skills they contribute to our students and communities.

As classes take place in the afternoons and evenings, you will have your mornings free to experience everyday life in rural Cambodia. You can explore the surrounding villages, visit local markets and Buddhist temples, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Cambodian countryside.

For those looking to relax, there is also a hotel with a swimming pool in the neighbouring village, just 3.5 km from Khemara Kidshelp School. Our volunteers are welcome to use the pool for a daily fee of only USD 2, making it a perfect place to cool off after exploring the local area.

Most of our volunteers spend their weekends in Phnom Penh, where they enjoy the city's cafés, restaurants, markets, and vibrant nightlife. Many also take the opportunity to travel further afield and discover Cambodia's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Popular destinations include the magnificent temples of Angkor in Siem Reap, the picturesque riverside town of Kampot, and the tropical islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, renowned for their white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.

Volunteering not only allows you to make a meaningful contribution to the education of young Cambodians but also gives you the opportunity to experience the country's fascinating culture, warm hospitality, and breathtaking landscapes.
