We are an international non-profit that operates in Tzununa, Guatemala. We are a dog rescue and developing a Sanctuary for enough dogs to house in the whole village. We are less than a year-old as an organization, but have a great relationship with the local community and are looking for people who want to join us on this developing journey, in both working with animals and the local community of Tzununa.

We live in the village of Tzununa on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. It is an extremely beautiful place that is long-term occupied Mayan land, dead in the middle of one of the most gorgeous cultural areas for Mayan culture known as El Lago de Atitlan. The local language is Kaq'chikel, which we are learning and work with the local community everyday. By living in this space one will get an up-close look into modern Mayan lifestyle, language, food and culture. It has both it's ups and downs, but we live in a new and developing area that has much to offer.

Hello there. We're creating the first dog sanctuary in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. We're looking for a person who would like to live here and help us build the space for dogs, develop the land around it, and house construction if they are able. Most importantly someone who is good with dogs fits our main job requirements! We've got a great pack of nearly 30 dogs in our current care, very healthy good animals, but can always use help with training, dog care, and improving their behavior. The ultimate applicants will be 1. lovers of animals 2. good reliable hands for being with the animals 3. educating in natural or construction building of all kinds. But we are open to different types of skill sets if they can aid our vision!

    Unterkunft

Single twin-sized bed in a shared room, in a small brick house with storage room. We have an outdoor kitchen that uses a propane stove and tank, and a sheltered outdoor bathroom and shower. Also lots of camping space on the Dog Land if that is preferred. We supply volunteers with food supplies, and welcome anyone with joy of cooking to help us cook our group meals. Desire volunteers that enjoy taking turns with meal responsibilities.

Food is partially supplied for Workaway volunteers. We stock up on food every Sunday Market and provide food for the whole house up to our budget. However this does not cover all meals, Workawayers are expected to split costs of any and all extra food they need past what we supply for the house (especially true if you have dietary restrictions. We are meat eaters, and often cook non-vegan like using eggs). If you have dietary restrictions we can do our best to accommodate them to a fault: we usually will stock up on lots of vegetables, starches, coffee, some fruits, rice, things like this, and whatever else is needed we can all split the costs.

There is a lot to do in Tzununa, surprisingly. The local businesses that have been started by foreigners and travelers have beautiful accommodation and interesting spaces like Community Permaculture Gardens, Organic Gardens, an Apothecary, a large Dance Temple that focuses on contact-dance, and a Mushroom Cultivation School and community. Tzununa and neighboring towns also have lots of businesses run by the local Mayan community, and offers lots to the traveler community. Tiny go-kart like cars called "Tuk-tuks" can drive you around the lake at very inexpensive prices, and there are boats that can take you from town to town for equivalent prices. There are also wonderful weekly markets that we restock our food and such at nearby.

Yes! However, not so good for constant visual streaming. But wifi-internet speed at 5.5 MBs can be increased if so desired by volunteers and if we are able.
