My permaculture farm has 500 meter boardering lake Farris. The lake offers possibilities for swimming/showering, kayaking, fishing, as well as ice-fishing and ice scating during winter. This lake is the drinking water lake for Larvik, and is also sold in mineral water bottles in the shops. The hundred year old farmhouse pumps its water from the lake, without filtration.
The property is large, mostly forest, as well as 7.000 m3 over 3 areas to build 3 food forests of which one will become a nut forest. Food forest1 was started summer 2020. Food forest2 behind the barn was started autumn 2021. The house is old. A lot has to be repaired, 'modernised' or painted. I especially need help this summer with the buildings.
The farm is about 120 km southwest of Oslo. Norway being 3.000 km in length and 750 km in width, so 120 km from Oslo means close to Oslo.

    HELP NEEDS, specified down below.
Let me know what you would like to do and in what you have already experience!

Professional help hired: Besides workawayers I (1 privat person, not a firm) also hired in a man with motor saw to cut trees, to cut them in peaces, to move the wood and more. Also hired a carpenter who will restorate the Old farm summer house (cabin) on the outside. An electrician will come to check on everything, make new connections where wanted and to update things. A local 'roerlegger' water pipe man will mount a smaller boiler, make an extra outside water tap and more.

Your host, Annette, 63. I am from the Netherlands and have been living in Norway since 1998. At the age of 39 I moved to Norway, where I worked as a strawberry picker one summer when I was 20.
Settling down on this small farm after having traveled the world, from the mountains in Ecuador, Cuba, Jamaica, Costa Rica to Laos, Cambodia, Nepal and Tibet, helping out on a reforestation project for Oerang Oetans in Borneo, etc. I have met many different cultures over many years. And I am interested in meeting you too. Looking forward in having many interesting conversations with you.

June 2020 I moved to this small farm. Since then I prioretized my dream having a permaculture food forest. Besides green fingers I am a social, spontaneous, musical, ’sportive’ and because of sicknes a retired clinical psychologist. Beside psychology I also studied medicine and natural medicine. In my head I am still young, but my body tells me different.

I have low thyroid disease, which makes that I gradually get more energy from 11.00 and so less energy again from 15.00/19.00 hours, depending on how much energy I use in the afternoon. I probably will work one or two hours in the foodforest every (late) afternoon, do projects in my house or paint my house. Quit often you will see me take a rest while 'working'. One day a week I go to treatment and do all the shopping I can come home very tired, but one hour on my coach will make me socially and sometimes even active again.
I choose to rely on my immune system and herbal medicine and are not 'vaccinated'.

With the possibility to have solar panels on the garage, my place will most probably be partly off grid from 2023. But for starters the guest house and guest boat will be off grid; first using portable solar lights and from late summer 2022 using small solar panels.

Today there are 18 free ranging White and Brown Sussex chickens, one of them a rooster named Anna. Maybe next year also a Yorkshire terrier on the farm, to protect the chickens and fruit trees and to get rid of mice. Cat Beau is now one yr old. She is looking for mice as well.

You appreciate being ’at the end of the world’, in a very quiet and silent place, only hearing birds or the cock singing. You are a handy man or woman with at least some experience in that you are interested in doing. You are able to work on your own, but I will give you an extra hand when needed. Sometimes we will work together. You have no problem to be the only workawayer on the farm, or two persons in case of a couple. While working you enjoy the view over lake Farris towards far away mountains. You like to go for a swim or snorkling, go walking or cycling (my bicycle need some small repairing first), go kayaking, go fishing (gear available). You maybe are interested in learning to cook on a fire.
You are flexible and are not afraid to come with solutions where I maybe don’t see them.
You are a non smoker and not addicted to the internet or want to experience doing without/less for a while. Your mobile phone you leave behind while working.
This maybe is not the place for people who are used to, or like to have, a lot of people around them.

Inside my house: Vaccinated persons must be willing to wear gloves, and maybe wearing a mask in the 6 months period after your last injection.

Kvelde is part of Larvik municipality and has 2.000 inhabitants. It has one supermarket, 8 km away.
On school days a mini bus is running from Kvelde along the farm, in connection with the bus to and from Larvik (first bus 07.00 and last bus leaving 15.00).
Last bus leaving Larvik train station to Kvelde around 17.00, monday/friday. Make sure you are arriving in time on the Torp/Sandefjord airport to take the train to Larvik train station to catch the bus. I can send you links for busses, trains or find you the exact times. Just ask me.
With my 2-seater I can pick up one person from the bus stop at Kvelde church (Monday/Friday). Because of diseases spreading these days I do not want a long time drive pickup; sorry.

    Corona 2021
You can enter Norway when you come from a country that is green on this map:
Map updates early Mondays. Countries turn green if they have few new covid cases.
    For coloured areas within Norway:
In case you come from an area which requires quarantine, you can do your quarantine on the farm (if allowed).
You will have your own place to stay, toilet, kitchen, shower in the lake or have an outside hot water bucket shower.

You will be able to learn about permaculture, living off-grid in the boat or guesthouse, farm life and smell the Norwegian (and me Dutch/Netherlands) culture.
I can help you practice English, Norwegian or Dutch.
We can practise Qigong together with lake view.
If you are interested I can teach you about medical herbs and making tinctures, to make soap, green shampoo, or making cheese (without the use of milk), make rice milk or almond milk on your free day.
I hope to learn from you too!
I have several instruments (bongo, piano, flute, guitar, clarinet, violin, Cretan lute) so maybe we can make some music together too, but I myself need notes to play from.

You will be staying in the sailing boat a Leisure 22, which is build with a kitchen, toilet, sitting area and 5 beds. This is a comfortable place for one or two adults. From the outdoor sitting area on the boat you will have a marvellous view.
During June/July/August/september/(October) the guest house will be rented out to nature lovers interested in experiencing living a simple life.
You will clean after yourself before leaving. You are also welcome to put up your tent or hammock somewhere.
At the moment the boat gets rain in and will be temporarily replaced with sleeping in a tent. The boat becomes a new project on the to do list.

There is an outside kitchen, camp fire place, compost bucket toilet system, coffee corner with a roof with possibility for electric charging/cooking/baking in case of rainy wheater. A shared fridge just around the corner inside the barn.
Water you collect directly from the lake. In the sun you can warm water for showering.
There are several outdoor eating areas as well as one outside eating area with a roof next to the house.
In case of cold autumn weather you can borrow an insulation suit to wear in the evening sitting outside.

    Time schedule July/August/Sept.:
You will have the mornings for your self. Remember it is light all night and day during summer. This is an excellent time for a short kayak tour or just relaxing.
12.00 (or if you want at 13.00) Lunch/brunch/breakfast.
12.30-12.45 Planning the work, planning the day.
    12.45-13.00 Prepare and move.
    13.00 Work.
You can choose if you want to work from 13.00-18.00 or 13.00-15.(30) + long break + your choice, or f.ex. painting a wall towards the south in the evening. Between 13.00 and 15.00 I try to be there for at least one hour.

Meals: All available food will be taken care of. We will share lunch, dinner, coffee and tea breaks. We can also eat dinner cooked by me, by you, us together, served at 12.00 or 13.00 hours, or cooked by you served between 18-19 hours. Cooking is not counted as work, as it is normal that you always have to make your own meals.
We can share our evenings. Maybe overlooking the lake, the midsummer night sun or sitting around the fire and having an interesting conversation.

Internet: You will have excess to Fiberglass internet on the main house terrace as well as the dinner place with a roof. Your phone/wifi will only work in this remote area on a few places on the farm. Because of the fact that there is almost no signal for mobile phones here your phone will be radiating a lot and emptying your battery fast. Because I am RADIATION sensitive I asl you to have your phone on airplane mode when not using your phone. Plan is to lay a fiberglass cable to the cabin, from where it will give wifi.

You have the possibility to help 5(x5hrs) days with 2 days off, or 4(x6hrs) days a week and so travel 3 days. Or maybe you want to help 10 days and so travel 4 days. Many possibilities we can discuss. Or if you prefer you can work 3 days - 1 day off - work 2 days - 1 day off and repeat. It is also possible to go kayakking in the morning and work in the afternoon and early evening now that it is light the whole night.

Right from the farm you can go kayaking, cycling, fishing or go on a few days hike, camping wild. So take a small tent or hammock with you if you would like to do this.
People visiting Norway come to enjoy nature, not so much culture. Musea in Norway are only open a few weeks a year. There are some very nice different kinds of open air concerts in Larvik, Sandefjord and Tonsberg during summer. In Larvik there are also indoor concerts, 1 pub with concerts and free use of the library.

The train in Larvik is 30 km, a 35 minutes drive, away. The nearest airport (Oslo) Torp in Sandefjord, 42 km. Tonsberg, 55 km, has a Viking festival. To Geilo it takes minimal 7 hours. To Oslo will take from Kvelde about 3 hours.

I am retired but have been working as a Psychologist and had my own firm before coming to Norway. Today I am all fascinated by Permaculture and Medical Herbs, in between I try to play my Cretan (Greek) lyra or paint some aquarel. I also have other instruments, so maybe we can make music together? But I enjoy hanging in the sun too.

When your dog is used to free ranging chickens, then no problem. Otherwise your dog has to be on a long leach while on the farm. In Norway from April until September 15 it is obliged to keep your dog on a leach while walking your dog in nature and elsewhere. We can put up a long 'chain' between 2 buildings for the leach to run on. And of course we can try to learn your dog to get used to chickens, so it can go free too.
