The tasks I completed included daily house chores like vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning the bathroom. I also bathed and groomed the dogs once a week, and took them on walks every other day. In addition to the routine care, I helped with bigger projects, such as dehydrating bananas, organizing items into boxes, and moving them into a room, as well as taking things to the garbage and recycling.
Overall, I feel incredibly fortunate for this opportunity, and I’m so happy to have met such kind and welcoming people. I would highly recommend this Workaway experience to anyone!

The only thing was that the tent had lots of mold stains which might not be very healthy to sleep in but there is air circulating thanks to the mosquito net and also they ordered new tents already which should have arrived already before we got there but didn't unfortunately.
Another huge benefit is that Jennifer is very welcoming and also borrows you stuff to go snorkeling or surfing for example. And the car which can be borrowed for 30$/day is very helpful too!!Weitere Bilder

We had two wonderful and inspiring weeks with Jennifer, Lupe and Dante. They are just so kind and want that you know the island. We mostly took care of the house and the animals. The tasks were super easy and really little which gave me a lot of free time to explore the island. I mainly helped with cleaning the house, walking and washing the dogs and fixing up the canopies for the backyard. I was able to do the tasks at whatever time and order I wanted and Jen even gave me a whole day off to go visit the Volcanoes National Park. Me and the other volunteer were able to use one of their cars the whole time, a luxury that I didn’t take for granted! The tents are super cute and spacious, the bed really comfortable and you even have wifi; glamping at its finest :). You can use the kitchen and living room area and the bathroom in the house without any restrictions and the workaways have their own fridge and shelves where they can store their food. We had some really nice moments together eating and having long conversations about culture, religion and traveling and it was so interesting to share different perspectives. I can recommend this place and these people with my whole heart and I’d love to come back sometime!! I also really enjoyed the walks and cuddles with the dogs Luna and Popcorn, the chickens and especially Big Mama who was always waiting for me in front of my tent, the long conversations at the dinner table (Jen and Lupe have the most funniest storys), Jen's food (OMG HEAVEN) and so much more. If I wanted to go on an excursion, there was always a car available, which is not always the case at a workaway. If you have to rent a car in Hawaii for a longer period of time, it can be really expensive. Also the tent was very comfortable with a real bed. So it's not camping but rather glamping.

We mainly helped in and around the house (cleaned after ourselves and helped with some organizing) and helped with paining wood for the coop.
They provided a car for us which we could use to explore the island and get to the other end.
Waimea is a very cute little city with coffee shops, supermarkets and some other nice shops.
Sleeping in the tents was also very nice and cozy (especially when it rained a little bit) and there is everything you need (light, drawer, comfortable bed, electricity).
Luna and popcorn are also very very cute dogs and I loved going on walks with them or giving them hugs :).

… read more contacted me in advance that I could postpone my stay if I didn't feel comfortable with it, that was so nice of her. But I came anyway and I'm so glad I did!! While I was there we had a lot of free time to explore the Island because Jen didn't felt completely fit after covid and I don't know how she still managed everything but it's impressive! Jen is such a generous person, we could use her kitchen and she even offered us a lot of staple foods and sometimes she made big delicious meals for all of us! (for my birthday she made me the best tacos I've ever had + a cake❤️) Don't play board games with her, you will definitely lose haha! If you want film recommendations just ask her, she saw EVERYTHIIING. Jen is such a loving person, she always made sure that we have everything and feel comfortable. She even took us to the cinema and to the escape room, we loved it!!
Lupe is for sure one of the funniest persons I've ever met, I enjoyed every talk and billard game with him!! We helped him with painting the wood for the coop-roof and I had a lot of fun doing it.
Regarding work it was really easy and relaxed. We had normal chores like vacuuming the house, cleaning the kitchen/bathroom, washing the dogs, watering the plants, driving to the dump etc.- we mainly just cleaned after ourselfs!
We even had a workaway car where we just had to fill up the gas, what is amazing!!
I was sleeping in a cozy tent, what felt like GLAMPING! You would think that it is loud in the night but I slept like a baby. I loved being outside and feeling connected to the nature!
Last but not least: Popcorn and Luna, the cutest doggos ever! The second I saw them I fell in love with them, so be aware of that haha I already miss them so much & I hope they miss my cuddles too! <3

Waimea is the perfect place to stay
… read more if you’re looking to explore the Big island. A small town but has everything you’d need. There‘s also tons of great farmers markets nearby on multiple days during the week (including one right next door)! You’re surrounded by rolling green pastures with views of Mauna Kea, can get to the beach in 25 minutes, and to Kona or Hilo in an hour! Jennifer is always encouraging you to go explore and experience the island and even helps kit you out with towels and beach gear if needed.
Staying in the yurt was so so comfortable! Glamping at its finest; cute string lights, a comfy bed with lots of blankets (it does get chilly at night), and the most amazing stars at night. The kitchen was fully stocked with every appliance you could ever dream of and more. Jennifer graciously provides some staples and even shares some meals and treats with you (which is a treat in and of itself as she is a great cook)!
I mostly worked on cleaning/sorting/organizing the garage but also helped with household tasks and chores. The work is easy and Jennifer is very flexible with hours, letting you choose what days and hours you want to work.
Jennifer and Lupe both have such big hearts and are such amazing hosts. They go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable, have everything you need, and are getting the most out of being in Hawaii!

The living situation is a glamping tent ( so lux camping), however in winter be sure to ask for extra blankets as it gets really cold at night. If you are not used to constant rain sounds-ask for earplugs, and if you have any electronics pls do not leave them outside of any sort of padded case, as they will catch humidity and start to act up. Luckily, Jenn saved my computer by drying it out near a heater.
Overall, if you're looking for a safe place to stay and clear communication and genuine care matters to, then you will love this place!! I would recommend coming back to anyone. Have fun! They have a fabulous home with a lot of space. During all my stay, I felt like home <3. They gave us delicious meals and snacks. They were so generous with everybody. This review comes far too late and I don’t know how to start because there’s so much to say.
I have left over one month ago now and I miss it so much!
This was the best Workaway experience I ever had!

She was so kind and helpful in this situation and helped me out by inviting me into her home earlier.
It was my first time travelling on my own and she made me feel at home right away.
Her home is lovely and big.
I had the honour of being her first Workawayer and getting to stay in the Coop.
When more Workaway’s came we put up these lovely tents for them to stay in which were so lovely and cozy as well.
We had a nice bathroom which we shared and the kitchen was big enough for all of us plus the family to cook in.
Jen is such a generous person and she offered a lot of staple foods and even made big Meals for all of us every now and then.
We also had a lot of space in the fridges to store our food.
Sometimes she would even turn up with big Pizza’s, Chocolate Cake, Apple Strudels or Croissants...she’s the best.
Regarding Work, it was so easy and relaxed.
We had normal House Chores like vacuuming the house, washing the dogs, cleaning the kitchen/bathrooms, watering the plants, etc.
Sometimes Jen would write a list with work for us to do.
And of course there is the garage which we unfortunately weren’t able to finish sorting out.
The garage is kinda packed with things that just were collected over time.
There are books, CD’s, recycling, old board games, kitchen machines, clothing, tools, etc.
Jen would really love to have an organised garage one day and have all the tools and stuff sorted and make a big garage sale with the things she doesn’t need anymore.
We went through and sorted out many of the things but unfortunately weren’t able to make a garage sale before we left.
Regarding working hours we could choose our own schedule but because we were 6 Workaway’s we were very quick and had the rest of the day to go explore the island or go to the beach and enjoy ourselves.
We had our own car to go explore which was great and Jen also offered us her van because we were many people at one point and didn’t fit into the other car.
I can only recommend doing Workaway at Jen and Lupe’s place.
They are the nicest people and have a lovely family.
I wrote everything I wanted to say to you guys into the “Workaway Book” but I’ll say it again.
I miss you and the conversations we had so much and just your lovely personality Jen.
