We are a family of 4 (Declan and Marion and our two children) living in a very secluded place in the hills of Donegal. It's an ideal place for walkers with streams, lakes, hills and forests to be explored. The area has a strong tradition of music, and we ourselves play different instruments. We have gardens and and some polytunnels were we grow our own veg and herbs for culinary uses and herbal teas. We always have some sort of projects going on like a music channel which we started after doing up a bow top gypsy wagon. - Well, if anyone out there can play the Clarinet and could share a few lessons while here, that would be great!

We love and are involved in Irish traditional music and take our volunteers along to any session we attend. This is an Irish speaking area and you have the chance to pick up some Irish from most members of the family. Some of our volunteers got their first fiddle lessons in our family! You can learn a lot from us about fermenting, home baking and foraging.
Dieses Projekt schließt möglicherweise den Umgang mit Kindern ein. Mehr Informationen findest du in unseren Verhaltensregeln und Tipps hier.
Here are some of our past projects: In recent years we completed to convert an old shed turning it into a wooden Lodge. Big thanks to all the volunteers who threw themselves into the project giving us a great hand and often advice! We also rent out the gypsy caravan. The project is also becoming a hit on YouTube and some of our volunteers and guests have taken part on this musical journey.
Other projects are happening in our garden. We have now 3 polytunnels with where we grow veg and herbs. These and our raised beds outside need constant looking after (we thought after all experimenting with mulching we wouldn't need weeding anymore, but the weeds just know better). So we welcome volunteers with some gardening knowledge (but you can learn a lot from us us well). We can show you the process of tea making: harvesting, drying, milling and mixing. Our kitchen is full of great aromas when we make the tea!
Our volunteers become part of our family and are helping out with daily tasks from cleaning, light house help to perhaps chopping wood, landscaping, looking after the animals and gardening. We always work hand in hand with everything. We are continually learning and increasing our knowledge about permaculture and perhaps, you our workawayer will have some more tips for us?
Ideally we are looking for volunteers age 25 and above.
- I know this is a long shot, but can anyone play the Clarinet? One of the family members would be grateful for a few lessons (YouTube is good, but real persons are better)!

We live in a very homely place and offer a private room within our house for our volunteers.
We live in an area of natural beauty, and we are very secluded. (The next shops are miles off!) We live right beside a waymarked way called "the Gaeltacht/Sli na Finne way", so it's great for hiking. Volunteers can also use our bikes to explore the area. We live close to Fintown (10 min drive) and Glenties (20 min drive), a town renowned for fiddle music with famous fiddlers living nearby.
A bit more about ourselves: We have 2 children and 2 very friendly dogs and a couple of Indian Runner ducks. We are vegetarians and love fresh food and to experiment with new dishes and baking. Our volunteers are invited and welcomed to experiment with us in our kitchen, in fact all the volunteers are invited to cook for all of us from time to time so we can experience some new tastes! We are always on the lookout for new interesting and tasty recipes and in exchange can teach you many things like making your own sourdough bread and anything you need to know about fermentation. We look for volunteers who show an interest in what we are doing, bring in their own ideas, so the whole thing becomes a "giving and taking". Our workawayers are part of our family while on board with us. We play house music in the evening or board games. It's a television free house!
We love traditional Irish music, and visit regularly Irish sessions where we join in playing music and concerts. You're always welcome to join us! Plenty of music festivals are happening in the area.
We also have plenty of books about anything and everything should you ever get bored!
